Hachiroku Heaven: Dream Drive to 86 Fest

I have hundreds of photos from 86 festival, and to be honest, I’m going to post most of them here on the website for others to enjoy. There’s always a severe amount of cars at these events, and with most other websites, people have a limit or try to cut down the size of a post to keep things to a digestible amount. Not here! I’m going to dump pretty much anything I thought was cool onto the site over the next few days, broken up into six different blog posts. Just so you guys can get a comprehensive look at what was arguably the most incredible event I’ve ever been to in my life.

It started on a high following Rob Bery’s green machine out of Osaka early on a Saturday morning. Robs 86 is an ex-comp car from a shop called Car factory Zenith. It was featured heavily in various magazines back in the golden era, and he’s done an in-depth video about its history on his Youtube channel. I highly recommend checking out his vlog series to see more. He picked it up after it was out of commission for over ten years; you can see the history of its past life on the iconic Goodline hood.

So cool to see the green machine on the motorway surrounded by regular cars on the highway. Fifty shades of grey and this thing!

Rob was sick of the heat and threw the keys at me; he knew it would make my entire trip to be able to drive this car on the third day; you can make out the permanent smile in all the photos as we whizzed our way through the epic Japanese countryside. A high point in my life that ill never forget. The sound of that car, I can hear it through these photos

Love this! Most cars are snow-white, you rarely see a green car anywhere in Japan.

Even looking back on this photo now, it’s hard to believe that’s me behind the wheel. You look at this stuff for so long online, when it finally happens in real life it’s almost too hard to comprehend.

Peak happiness right there, up a winding Japanese road in a noisy ae86, the stuff of dreams.

It had such a unique colour that popped against the Japanese backdrop.

Spot the smiles!

Such a great looking front end!

I was super nervous but excited to drive it; hard to describe such a feeling in words; I’m not quite articulate enough to convey the feelings I had at that moment. I’ll let the rest of the photos make up for it!

I’m very grateful to the lads for documenting this moment, as it’s something ill look back on fondly for the rest of my life.

Lots more to come over the next few days.
