Feature: Reckless Tribal Machines
I don’t need to get into too much detail about the back story to shooting these cars; it’s the very same as the Cut Loose guys. The Reckless tribe crew were chatting to us on social media and decided to meet up with the Cut Loose boys and road trip their way to the Juicebox BBQ.
I’ve always been a fan of the reckless tribe guys, Ghalib has one of the best looking FC’s this side of the globe, and I’ve always wanted to see this thing in real life. Both of the lads drove from Glasgow and met the Cut Loose lads when they landed in Ireland.
I have no idea how they made it to Waterford and back again in one piece. That leaves no excuses for any of us with our cars if we ever decide to road trip. Ghalib did it with a rotary engine too, so he gets even more points.
The reckless guys are of the same frame of mind as the Cut Loose guys, inspired by old teams of the mid millennium the guys have to build their cars close using that style as a template, both rocking the same colour accents like teal and purple. Both vehicles look like something you would find at a track day in Japan, and both cars look fucking awesome.
As you can tell, Ghalib’s style has is heavily inspired by that original Haraguchi FC. The RX7 can take on many faces; it looks excellent stock, built like a grip racer, Wangan race machine in the late 90s or hugging the ground in full drift outfit.
This thing is about an inch away from destruction, and it gets me excited. Ghalib has fitted a BN type 1 kit, Origin 50mm fenders and stock front rolled arches.
He’s fitted a 1700mm GT big country lab wing on the rear that’s similar to the original Haraguchi look. It just goes to show how timeless that look was back in 2001 as cars like Ghalibs hold up to the test of time today. Good style never goes out of fashion. This FC has an incredible presence.
The wheel choice is Wed Kranze Bazaria 18x9J upfront and 18x11J at the rear, the fronts have a 5″ lip, and the backs have a 7″. This thing is entirely static, and it just goes to show what you can drive on a long-distance if you have the guts to do it.
How he navigated his way to our shed with this thing will forever be a mystery, the guys covered over a thousand Kilometres with cars that look undrivable on Irish roads.
That’s what I’ve always admired about cars from that era of drifting; it just looks like it shouldn’t work. These days the cars look a little less aggressive and more functional, cars ride higher now as people chase the best possible setup. I’ll always revert to these days where function followed form its what gets me excited looking at photos.
Inside this thing, the RX7 is quite raw, Ghalib has fitted a Keys Racing wheel, retained the standard seats, it has a Cusco cage, and he’s got a couple of essential gauges.
This engine is a street ported S5 13B-T, with an HKS manifold mated to a Garret GT4082 turbo; there’s a Koyo rad for cooling and custom front mount intercooler. I’ll chuck the full specs below.
Watching this thing drive around is both nerve-wracking and exciting at the very same time, it looks like it should be able to go places but it can.
This was the arguably the most significant era for drift cars; cars oozed with style looked amazing parked in the pits or blowing aero off on a track. The “Haraguchi” style has left a massive impact on a lot of drift enthusiasts, and Ghalib has plucked his favourite parts to build his vision of the perfect FC.
Lain has been piecing this S15 together for a few years now. It’s still a naturally aspirated Silvia which these days is quite rare.
He said it’s incredibly reliable, and there might be plans down the line to swap the motor our for a turbo, but he’s going to drive the NA SR until it dies.
The car had a BN sports Type 2 kit; BN could do no wrong in the mid Millenium, each kit was a treat for the eyes. Lain exploded the front end, so its currently rocking the OEM type S front bumper with a DC2 front lip.
I love this combination and being honest; this looks good with the BN side skirts and rear Spec R valences.
Lain has fitted a Dmax rood spoiler and boot spoiler, the back end is complemented by sonar rear tails.
For wheels, you can’t go wrong with a meaty set of VS-KF’s from Work; they look great on any drift car.
Inside there’s a lot of personal touches; the Bride is fitted with a crushed velvet cushion along with the door cars, it has a crown royal gear gaiter and a Nardi classic. It looks just like a well-used interior you would see in the motherland.
I enjoyed meeting the lad and shooting their pride and joy. The cars are by no means show queens they have plenty of character always evolving. Just like the Cut loose lads I can’t thank these guys for making the trip to our BBQ last year. The fact these lads drove the most unpractical cars such a long distance and navigated some of the worst roads in Ireland will forever be legendary.
Hope you enjoyed the snaps.
