The Final 86 Shoot Before it goes for paint.
I thought this day would never come, the 86 was sitting in the shed for so long that it felt like I bit off more than I could chew, a few hours after this photoshoot the car would finally be leaving to go for paint. I decided to bring it around the corner to the place where we did the original photoshoot before the tear down, just to get one last up close and personal photo set before this look would change forever.
As much as people have appreciated the look of this over the years, I was well and truly sick of the look knowing the potential that would come from having all these bits and a vision I had for this car since I was a teenager was something I wanted to achieve. It looks great here with all the gapped panels after Barry worked his magic.
I’ve always been someone who loved character on cars, as as much character as this had in this look, it was long overdue a change, I threw on the TE37s for moral support which have been with the car the last year through all the phases of bodywork.
I’ll always look back at this fondly, the gold Goodline bonnet has a story, the wings, everything has a funny or interesting story all coming together to try to build the dream misery machine. In an ideal world, it would have been funny to just leave this car as it was, and build another one, as it will always be remembered with this look. At least I have the photos to remember forever.
The unknown, which Barry buzzed into at the start of the project, was a serious mission to fix this corner and I can’t wait to reveal it over the next few months,
Nothing escapes a penis in the shed.
The interior, is almost finished but miles away from how I want it to look. The EC works mirror holding on for dear life in the corner.
The TRD wing we got from MR X was in a bush.
Years of faded paint, sanded misery and dust.
All to be erased very soon after these were taken, I honestly can’t wait to show how far its come.
The spiders making their way back into the car, I think they will be a part of this thing forever.
I love the blistered contrast between the lip, the bumper and the bonnet.
The remains of the hood pins, I’ll have to put fresh ones on in the same spot.
There really is a beauty to that aged look, if this was something from the 50s or 60s the car could probably stay like this but unfortunately, 1980s Japanese Toyotas are made of tin foil.
That front end! So close to how I want it to look.
The engine bay looked good, everything was so close to how I wanted it to be, I really can’t wait to put the final touches in here.
Im so happy that I found this Snap-on key, as it’s a lovely little throwback to the original screwdriver that came with the car.
The red mats, are an indication of the future look!
I must have stared at it here for about an hour in disbelief waiting for Barry to arrive with his trailer.
Ralph knew something was up, his little hiding space was being removed from the shed.
Maybe he thinks we are all crazy at the shed, spending this much time and effort on old rusty shit boxes which are always trying to kill themselves.
Bryan was happy to see the other side of this thing for a while.
The other man who sort of ruined my life and got me into this mess, felt it was only right that Dave drove it onto the trailer.
There it was finally locked and loaded.
Words can’t describe how surreal it was to see this out of the business park and on the move.
It’s new home, the place it’s been for the last year.
Surrounded by interesting company, I’m very keen to show you more about this over the coming months.
This fucking car! What a mission it’s been over the last few years. It almost feels like having a child! More on this shit box soon. Cheers for reading.
