The AE86 with panels outside
Another shot of the car with panels on. This was a weekend where we had a BBQ at the shed, and with the setting, I drove the windowless machine out into the yard to photograph its various twenty shades of pain.
I had just received these wings from our friend Shane, which had a flare to them, Barry was going to reshape these when the time came, but at least they had minimal rust.
There were many layers of crust, arches that had been blasted and primed, then epoxy and a mix of the original stripped paint and crust. What a mess!
The front lip had been crudely attached to the bumper via a few friendly cable ties. There was one here before the car was imported.
The bumper brackets were wonky, and the gold was bubbling, but what? I still absolutely loved seeing the car together out in the sun.
The interior vision is slowly coming together; I can’t wait to look back at these photos in years to come.
Marked out rust, another few weekends with Barry were in order.
And the back end, a lazy repair in Japan many moons ago, still needs to be addressed.
Some work Barry had done that I forgot to seal from the salty conditions of our surrounding area.
It would have been comical to take the car to a track day in this form.
So many things are happening here, but I enjoyed getting up close to document the peel, the dust and the crust.
I’ve been through so much with this little heartbreaker, and it amazes me how I haven’t become jaded from what seems like a never-ending project,
As the lads rocked in for a BBQ, we lined the cars up, had some burgers and chatted endless shite. The happiness is in the process, and as much as id love my car to be shiny like the rest of the lad’s stuff in the photos above, I’ve loved the journey and the shit that has happened along the way, the project and others like it have brought us together to give our lives a sense of purpose and meaning as we slowly chip away at the perfect vision.
