A Simple Black Sunny Truck
It was a real treat to get a double dose of Sunny trucks on the same day, almost a little overwhelming. You are trying to focus on all the details of one truck. At the same time, you don’t want to miss anything with another. Alan had taken a more traditional route with his Sunny Darren. The owner of this short bed had repainted his.
Most of these trucks come in white, and many work vehicles in Japan. It’s the most basic colour on almost anything mass-produced. This little truck came into Ireland many years ago and used to be owned by a friend of ours. This truck was at the first juice box bbq back in 2011.
Darren had ended up with it and decided to give it a complete makeover. The choice was black, and it complements the shape of the truck nicely. An early spec front end looks good dressed in black. Darren opted for a set of Volk mesh wheels up front, and the rear is built using two sets of rear barrels. The heigh is taken care of via VW Golf front struts mated to an airbag setup, and the back end is on lowering blocks.
Darren threw the tank into the truck bed and gave it a rustic look, giving the impression the sunny is carrying a load. The same 09 Racing fenders have been fitted to allow for the deeper wheels and their front lip.
The engine bay has an unexpected twist, a VVT SR20DE from an S15 Silvia. The bay on these trucks is quite big, so there was plenty of space to make it work. It is a perfect swap for the chassis. The cam cover is finished in Candy red, and Darren had to do some tunnel work to make the gearbox fit, but it all looks correct.
He’s left the interior more or less standard, adding a Momo wheel and a lovely wooden shifter. There are a few Omori gauges, but everything looks original. If you didn’t know, you would think this is how it came from the factory. The bumpers have been removed and shaved, and theirs small details like clear rear lights.
Just like the other feature, ill let the rest of the photos do the talking. It was a pleasure to have these two mini trucks side-by-side for a double shoot on the day. I hope you liked these photos.
Cheers
