AE86 Engine Install and Clock Modification
This was another one of those incredibly productive weekends. During covid, things were patchy, and progress ground halted for much of Christmas 2019/2020. With lockdowns and everything in between, the car progress had stopped, and it wasn’t until May/June 2020 that things started to move again.
This build has always been feast or famine, massive chunks of progress in the shed or small dribbles of effort. Over this weekend, our friend Darrel had re-adjusted the clocks to zero, as we felt the car deserved it. It had never come with the original Clocks. If you are a long time viewer of the build, you will know that the clocks were out of an AE92 supercharged FWD Levin, along with the entire loom.
I had given this all back to Dan, who I originally purchased the 86 from as I was going the 20valve route; this meant I needed to find an ae86 loom and clocks. Luckily Duggie had some in stock, but they read 230xxx km. Messing with clocks is a bit of a grey area in Ireland, but we can justify it with the amount of effort we have put into the build.
As Darrel was sorting the clocks, Duggie messed around with a Turbo setup in the engine from his stash, teasing viewers. Eventually, we fitted the pulleys to the 4A-GE, along with the trumpets. We squeezed it into the bat with the worlds dodgiest rope, along with the gearbox. My camera was dead naturally, so this was all filmed on a camera phone.
There’s a dog in this photo somewhere.
Ah, there he is, Ralph, stealing the show as usual.
I always forget to record half of the critical items in the videos due to exciting moments. Thankfully we documented some of it. I’ll let you enjoy the rest of the pictures from this weekend.
What could have been?
Shiny stuff!
More shiny stuff.
It was a total nightmare trying to keep the bay somewhat clean and scratch-free here.
Bryan loves keeping things clean. The loom gets a mesh covering to keep things simple.
Good views.
Dogs being dogs.
What an excellent way to spend a Saturday. I hope you appreciated these photos. More stuff soon
