Photos Unboxed: Unnecessary spending at MR “X”
Another Blog post about MR X! As we mentioned in a previous post I always come armed with a charged camera and a pocket full of cash. This place is always full of surprised and someday we will look back on guys like this and think about how crazy it was that he could import these cars from the other side of the world and dismantle these cars to save others.
Each one of those parts has a story, some more interesting than others. There’s quite a lot of history in these sheds.
Imagine if these parts could talk! What parts were in what cars, what adventures these parts were apart of… Deep!!!
MR X has been a lifesaver with this build so far, some of the hardest to find parts were just a lengthy drive away. I managed to pick up a loom for the 86 whilst Adrian grabbed a 5Zigen exhaust for the Carina from the previous post.
You really have no idea what to expect with this guy. How about an ex-cop car from Kent? Mr X could end up purchasing pretty much anything.
I’m surprised they sold this with all the stickers and Sirens attached.
A Raleigh chopper sits next to a singular silver over graphite wing.
Every time we get to see this 82 GT it brings an instant smile. What a charming machine.
This car was a fresh import and unfortunately, it didn’t hang around for long. An N2 kitted SR20 powered Levin which sadly found its final resting place in Ireland, I bet this had a cool life back in Japan.
If parts could talk, those windows were pretty cool, some of those stickers look like they have been there for a long time.
This shell was actually in decent shape, I wonder what will come of this sorry looking Hachi, maybe a fresh build for someone? Possibly a shell used for cuts for another restoration? Who knows…
This is such a surreal place for an AE86 enthusiast. The mind easily starts to wander when walking around his back yard.
One thing I spotted in a shed was this big box of Watanabe wheel nuts, I had to snatch a full set before going home. A totally unnecessary purchase but I just couldn’t resist.
This shed is filled with the best of the best. His E70 Corolla still looks great, we actually shot this car for the website and a magazine back in the day.
I love this snap of Johns old Gold AE86, possibly the reason he is deep in a sea of 86 parts right now? Who knows, I’m just fortunate we have a guy like this here in Ireland. The window for importing cars like this to break is rapidly shrinking and it’s only a matter of time before the price of these cars outweighs the profit made on breaking them for parts. This somewhat necessary evil will one day become a distant memory. That’s both a good and bad thing for the 86 enthusiasts of Ireland.
