Black & Bagged
We have seen quite a change in the car scene over the last four to five years in Ireland, the growth of a more European influence on what would have been a heavily saturated market of Japanese imports. Quite a large part of this was down to fuel prices, with this wave of Diesel machines brought a new collection of the good, the bad and well some pretty terribly ugly creations The Volkswagen scene itself is quite reserved, it’s a different take on cars and has to be appreciated when done right like this 2.0 TDI B6 Passat.
I had seen pictures of this floating around on the internet and was instantly impressed, like we have said numerous times, the amount of European cars modified in Ireland is heavily over shadowed by the Japanese, so any time something pops up like Deans Passat we are more than happy to share it with others. I love the subtle extras on the exterior of this car; it has been fitted with steel fabricated 2 inch wider front wings.
The exterior is quite smooth as some of you will note it has had the door and bumper strips removed and flushed and has been fitted with an R36 front bumper R line skirts and R line rear skirts with a twin exit diffuser while the front indicators have been turned on as USA daytime running lights. When the Diesel car started gaining ground on what used to be a world of big powered petrol cars, a fair share of bad beauties came out of the woodwork, along with that was the carbon copied “felt spec” machine which know can be seen far and wide.
It’s incredibly nice to see other people doing things differently and most importantly, done right. Dean painted the window chrome black adding to the simplistic look of the Passats exterior. Inside the original seats have been swapped out for a full R36 interior. The headlining was also done in Diamond stitched in alcantara. I enjoyed the fact this is a daily driven machine, driven on some of the most miserable roads imaginable.
The car has seen a few sets of wheels over the last year or so, these 18×10 et23 3 peice EC62 forged series rims looked pretty damn good under those rolled arches. The car has a very VIPesque look to it and in the rare sun which showed up for the photoshoot everything about this shoe choice was perfect.
The car has been fitted with Rayvern 2way air suspension, and enjoyable choice for a car which was never intended to be driven hard. Inside the original wheel has been swapped out for a Golf MK6 GTD steering wheel and an RCD150 touchscreen head unit.
The car has such a simple yet effective exterior, Dean is definitely in a different league with his creation, a league that is only getting off of the ground in the south as opposed to the northern counterparts Many of you are well aware that the website is heavily Japanese based, mainly because cars like this are few and far between on our little Isle down the southern direction. It’s nice to see more people embracing all aspects of the car scene, showcasing their take on four wheels plastic and a few bits of metal. Seriously good job on this, I hope you can appreciate it as much as we did.
