Little Bastard
Ive always been a huge fan of Julian and his sense of style when building the Low Brain drift car. The car has always attracted a serious crowd in each of its incarnations over the years and they guys have always had always managed to match the looks with an exciting driver, making a perfect blend of drift display. This year good friend Martin Ffrench has been piloting the car in what I think is the best the car has ever looked.
The car just oozes character, from every little dent, mark or rattle this is everything a drift car should be. This year the car has been painted red and still retains the BN Blister kit with the addition of a Rocket Bunny spoiler at the rear, we had an argument as to whether the car looked better or not without the large back spoiler so for this shoot we left it off.
The 13 is running the wise fab kit which pushed out the even beyond the wideness of the blister, I really enjoy how they came up with a solution to add a piece of carbon, if anything it added to the front end styling.
The F1 style mirrors popping out against the two tone candy paint done by the Lowbrain guys looks awesome, as much so as the incredibly tacky but oh so awesome gold flames, very BN sports. This year the guys are running Achilles which is proudly displayed at the side.
The infectious sound of the High compression LS1 which used to be fitted to Perrier racing le man car and even raced in Daytona 24hr, the crowds this thing has attracted over the year is insane, a single turn over in any place the car has been lurking and instantly a flock of characters come hovering over for a look.
This set-up replaced the original SR which you might remember James Deane running a few years previous when he piloted the car through a successful year in both the UK and Ireland. Some of the goodies inside include a High lift cam, race headers, Chromoly push-rods and JE forged pistons.
Ffrenchie being some what of an impressive car builder himself brought the car back to Ireland at the start of the year to refine the setup. Better air flow was also created through the use of dual fans and a rear mounted radiator.
Inside the car has been fitted with a clear firewall and a set of Corbeau custom seats and Luke Harness.
The original dash has been flocked and you can see the Jerico 4 speed dog box stick peeping out from the shadows.
Everything has been simplified inside, everything that has been left over has a purpose. The driver enjoys informations from a Dash 2 race technology dash.
Stopping power is provided by Alcon 6 pot brakes up front and a set of six pots on the back. The car originally had a set of delicious Work Equips but Julian sold them and managed to fund eight Rota’s, a sensible choice in the European drifting world as the equips were worth too much to melt off of kerbs. The wheels are wrapped in Achilles 123s.
The back end has been fitted with a custom diffuser setup which reveals the entire GTR back end, the rear setup sends smoke out directly behind the car, something im sure many of you have seen throughout the year. I love the cars somewhat lazy slouch in pictures, you know if this thing could speak it would have some serious stories.
Handling goodies include a modified Wisefab kit, one where Ffrenchie added an anti roll bay so we renamed it the Wexfab kit! Other handling goodies include Ikea Formula Arms and Race Logic suspension.
It has to be one of the best known drift cars this side of the world and I’m glad I could put this shoot together in one of its best incarnations when we made it to Poland. Its everything a modern drift car should consist of, a somewhat simple bomb proof setup, good looks and an interesting driver. Every bit of ear and eye candy you need to make a drift situation a proper lump of entertainment at an event.
