The Caretaker
Dave has had this car for almost ten or more years. In this world we never really own our cars, if the car is maintained well it will eventually pass hands when we are gone. This car has always been special to me because it gave me such inspiration over the years, back when the car scene was infected with filler and ICE installs, this Corolla had come in from Japan land stripped out with Advan A3A’s at the back and Longchapms at the front. Straight away it looked cool, a little track slut with odd shoes, something I had never seen before. It was silver low and ignorant looking, the complete opposite to every Max Power machine around at the time.
The countless hours and money he had poured into his creation, the friends he made along the way Dave himself was just another caretaker for this Corolla, working on it and doing what he could, he made the most out of the time he spent with the car. I remember when the car was fully restored and painted brown, Dave wanted to paint his car brown because of his love for all things wood and even after it was immaculate and fully restored down to every nut and bolt he still drove the stones out of it because that’s what these corollas are good for and that’s how this car had been setup.
Putting ever last penny into extracting as much power from the little 16valve as possible and shaving weight where he could this was one awesome setup, one that Dave worked to the bone to create. The sound and simplicity of these honest little cars is infectious. My fond love for the AE86 grew because of this car and a few others examples around the city, a love ill have for the rest of my life.
Dave like the owner before him in Japan has passed the car on, being a caretaker of the car he enjoyed his time but other life priorities had to come first. The car has changed hands, on to a new caretaker. Someone who will have new stories and memories resulting from the ownership, that’s the beauty of owning a car like this. I was very grateful to take the last few pictures of it in Dave’s possession. Someday the car will pass hands again, and with it another batch stores and memories will follow.

I could go on but I’ve said more than enough, I’m glad I could share Dave’s Corolla on eight six day.
