Mint Coupe
Dave’s car is well known amongst the 86 community in Ireland. Being one of the founding members of Garage Hachi, quite a hot blog up until a year ago, the guys have always had a serious eye for the right parts and have a true love for the 86 chassis.
The car is a 87 2 door Treuno GT. Dave has given the car a full respray in Silverstone grey and with custom flared steel arches. Dave showed us the pockets and arches and told us a new back panel was added during the restoration.
The Treuno also has genuine Aerocatch bonnet latches, a fibreglass boot lid, Raybrig headlights, brand new head lights, redlines on the rear and fresh plates. This shell is incredibly spotless, looking around the coupe while we were doing the shoot it became very apparent to me this has to be one of the best examples of a 2 door Treuno in the Ireland.
The car is an incredibly modest build, but not in a negative way. Everything has its place and leaves you looking twice to notice something new.
Dave’s incredible attention to detail resulted in this insanely clean cockpit housing a nice custom carbon centre console with two spa dual digital gauges and an alpine headunit.
Everything fits nicely, I couldn’t get enough of the black on black almost factory look, from the gauges and centre console to the Black Nardi Tornio on a works bell snap off kit.
For seating Dave has selected a Sabelt Titian seat on a bride rail while the passenger enjoys the original 86 comforts.
Under the bonnet lurks a standard Tvis 16 valve with a full ARC intake kit and upgraded leads and an electric fan conversion from the original viscous.
Handling wise Dave fitted MCN coilovers all round with an adjustable lateral rod, anti-roll bars and 4 links poly bushed. The rear end drum set-up was also retained and fully rebuilt with new seals pads and shoes.
For breathing Dave decided to purchase brand new Fujitsubo headers, a stainless decat and a Legalis R muffler. The car has the standard T50 gearbox which has been reconditioned and a lightened flywheel, upgraded clutch and c’s shifter with a moon face shift knob.
This being the first ever set of TE37v’s I had ever seen, I couldn’t get enough of them. Pictures never do them justice. To complete the car Dave decided to go the proper route and purchase a brand new set of these all the way from Japan, the rears are 14×9-15 with Falken ze512’s. The front end is 14 x 8.5 – 5 with Yokohama S Drives.
This is such an amazing example of a 2 door coupe, while these vanish rapidly around the country and become track cars it was so refreshing to see Dave spend a great amount of time carefully selecting genuine proper quality aftermarket parks and pour his heart into the 86. I’m glad I could share this work of art with you and stay tuned for more updates coming very soon.
