White Lines
The JZX100, a car that has always been at the top of the list of four doors to own… for some reason the idea of owning any of the Chaser, Cresta, or Mk2’s line has always appealed more than owning a Mercedes or BMW FR platform. The fact that Japan even created the cars and built each of the three with the same chassis but top half for a different reason is too awesome. They are just bad ass… simple as, in any colour or form. This example ticks all the right boxes…
I had wanted to shoot Johnny’s Chaser for quite some time now; the car is stupidly low, but in a good way and is also daily driven. The front end of this car has been fitted with TRD front grille and bonnet grills.
The sound from the 6 cylinder 1JZ is infectious and like many of you who have a soft spot for these cars there is just something so right about a big four door going sideways. I love the fact that the Origin kit is millimetres from the ground on some of the worst roads this country has to offer… that’s dedication!
The mist added to the overall awesome look of the car as I was shooting it. It just parked there grumbling as I tried to pretend I wasn’t in love with its bold and simple lines. I had almost forgotten how good these look in real life….
The kit complements the cars shape and the additional origin roof spoiler, vented wings and Ganador Mirrors give a helping hand in making the exterior of the car look incredible.
Under the bonnet lies a delicious 1jz lump. With most of these that came in from Japan, they have always been modified enough to unlock the enjoyable power that hides inside the 1JZ… Additions for power included an Hks 2830 pro-series turbo and exhaust system…
The car is also fitted with a HKS relocated oil filter kit, front mount inter cooler and air filter. With these additions a set of 650cc injectors were fitted along with an after market fuel controller.
The inside of this Chaser has been more or less fully retained. Inside the car had been fitted with a Momo Race wheel, a set of Bride Ego’s and the additional of a Defi controller and boost gauge.
The shoes Johnny chose for his chaser is a set of 18 x 9.5 Rota GTR’s all round, the white on white looks very enjoyable when done right on any Japanese machine.
Lurking behind the wheels is a set of TRD front callipers and Discs. The car sits on Cusco Coilovers and has a Cusco front anti roll bar. Helping things go sideways would be the TRD two-way Differential and ORC triple plate clutch.
I’m such a sucker for the little badges… Especially the old HKS drift performance one, each car that comes in from Japan always has a few little awesome badges that I’m sure some of you enjoy also…. Some sticker that gives away a little bit of the cars story… almost like car archaeology!
The JZX100 chaser is truly one of Japan’s greatest FR sedans, it just looks so powerful and commands that level of respect anywhere it goes. As we wrapped up the shoot on a tiny back street in Kilkenny I couldn’t help but notice how the car was turning heads no matter where it went. It’s sheer size and inline 6 sound sound echoing off of the stone walls was very enjoyable to the ears. The JZX100 Chaser is easily one of my favourite four door cars to come out of Japan and I’m thrilled I could share this prime example with you.
