The lost 86-X shots
Back at Japfest last year I had the chance to shoot probably the only Heavily Modified GT86 that will ever be on Irish soild (hopefully not)… Somehow I managed to loose these shots but magically uncovered them in the last few days and decided to throw them up on the site… It wasnt exactly an Irish car, but we couldnt help but take pictures! We intend to get more well build drift and track cars up on the site… something that will happen this year for sure…
When the GT86 first came out it looked pretty mediocre.. The bad wheels and touches really put many off the car but I knew it would eventually grow on me especially after the last six months where Tra Kyoto and other companies have released their vision of the 86. Its comical to look at the standard car next to Freddies all business example.
Im sure all of you have seen the Rocket Bunny GT86 by now and all the other examples which have been popping up at Auto Salon and all over the interweb… even though this was a little tatty due to it being an all function car the kit really does change the modest exterior of the car… which was really just a prototype when this car was assembled…
When myself and Paddy from Speedhunters had the chance to enjoy the standard version of this car we noticed just how big the engine bay was… especially the tunnel which dwarfed the Boxer engine and gear box… The 2JZ-GTE VVTi looked to be the perfect engine to slot into the bay.. even though it most certainly didnt bolt straight in as im sure you have read from the speedhunters feature.
The car is was putting out about 661 hp and 872 nm to the wheels with the COMP CT4B billet cartridge turbo lurking next to the inline six..
You cant help but enjoy the cars raw look… everything is pure function. The car was built in such a rush its amazing they did such a great job. Is it wrong that this lack of interior looks much better than the halfords spec standard interior the UK and Ireland models come with?
Caged and stripped with a set of Takata FIA harnesses fixing you into a set of Sparco FIA seats..
The chassis legs are very far apart on these cars apparently due to the boxer engine so the wheels were spread far apart to create the optimum amount of lock… I remember when this his the internet it caused quite a lot of controversy because the car didn’t have the correct “stance”….. hmm
The car had such an aggressive look… even with its dents and marks… so good to see such a new car have a few love taps and story marks… something you dont get to see too often in this country.
Will this chassis follow the legacy of the original 86? Only time will tell… With the different examples coming out all across the world the car has been received extremely well by car enthusiast everywhere.
With examples like this in the world, and this being one of the first ever to be attacked by a car lover it will be very exciting to see what the next few years bring for these cars.
When Japanese car companies for the last few years have been killing off their performance vehicles, the type R, the rotary, the Silvia, the EVO…. maybe the GT86 will spark another generation of awesome cars for the future car lovers to enjoy. There is hope through the GT86….
We lifted the spec from Speedhunters for you to check out if you havent seen it……
