Straightliners Spring 2011 Pt2
The crowd continued to grow throughout the day. It was so nice to be able to enjoy the racing without usual Irish weather pouring down on everything. Its not actually that bad of a country once the sun come out! This Westfield looked like good fun, especially on a sunny day. A fair share of the Honda’s that were racing looked good. This super clean looking EK wearing some TE37’s is a good example of less is more. You don’t really much more to complete this car… Nice to see a female driver out there in at a male dominated event. Showing the fellas how its done in a turbo EG. A conversion to the d-series which seems to be happening a lot more in the last few year. Its always nice to see an R34. White on white can never really be played out on a car like this. A bundle of Honda’s. Cheap fast fun… well sort of cheap! The Graignamanagh brothers Keelan and Jamie brought their K20 powered Dc2. Battle of the EF’s. VTI vs SIR… Jap VS Euro… you get the idea. Taylor was doing respectable low 13’s for a car which he had just done an engine rebuild on the morning before! American Muscle! It was nice to see a couple of drift wagons go up against the Honda’s. 180 fronts on s14’s are not the most common conversion. The one pictured above has to be one of the coolest I’ve ever seen. It goes to show how this conversion can look when executed correctly. The Work Equips couldn’t suit the car any better. This Japanese GC Impreza was a breath of fresh air to look at. It was great to see one which wasn’t influenced by rallying. The te37’s again look amazing under this car. Hopefully we will have a feature on this Impreza real soon. Watch this space! So much potential here, especially with the M7 replica J-mags. There was a more then usual amount of Ferios at the event. This particular one was wearing Wedsport Tc05’s and a mugen lip. The EG9 is becoming a rarer car as the years go on. No love for the Ferio’s…. Every time the bikes took off down the straight you were reminded of just how insane drag racing on a bike really is! Naturally aspirated versus Forced Induction bro. The RNN14 pulsar was a serious car to be reckoned with on the day. The same could be said for the GC Impreza we talked about earlier both cars clocking impressive times. Anyone else thinking Mad Max? There was no shortage of Honda’s ready to take each other on. The best part about the event was the fact you could race as many times as you want. All you ha to do was Que up join the ever growing que… Each time I went for a walk through the line of cars the Que got more interesting…. Sierra’s Paired with civics and Levins Paired with Integra’s. This EK was non stop all day. This was an unlikely start for both of these drivers! Another shot of the super awesome Ep3 and its Mugen wing. Mitsubishi Evo’s were an unstoppable force on the day, there was plenty of generation’s up for a challenge. It was hilarious that Taylor and his EG had covered most of the country, raced at the event all day and then traveled another massive distance home! Bonus points for that. Teejay was having fun beating all sorts of cars in his newly mapped DC2.
After winning his class he decided to give me one of his special model poses. What a poser!
The 4wd’s remained king especially in the final battle. Overall it was an awesome day because of the amount of cars that showed up and the nice weather which surprisingly held up for the entire day. The trip was a lot less horrid this time around due to the new motorways which are ridiculously boring but much better faster then some of the dodgy roads that we used to take. It was cool to see all the cars that Taylor had mapped do well in the event. The country certainly could do with more events with this. We live in a country which has a massive car scene and a huge following of drag racing and yet it makes little sense for us to have such no facilities.
If anyone has the times free to stick them up here, it was nearly impossible to understand through the speakers what was going on!
