Straightliners Spring 2011 PT1
It was that time of year again to head from the very south of Ireland up to the north. Straight liners was about to begin again and we expected another turbo journey to lay ahead of us. Surprising enough this time around all the new motorways had been fully open and we actually made it from Waterford to Enniskillen in about 3 hours abiding by the speed limit. This is one of the most exciting drag racing events in Ireland, well to be honest there isn’t too many. The best thing about Straighliners is the fact that you just don’t know whats going to show up.
Without predicting too much it seems that the car scene is slowly starting to come back around, at the start of last year it was alot quiter, possibly due to the whole recession and all that jazz. This year brought quite a lot of new cars and some nice weather. The sunshine in turn brought more cars and more people. An awesome day out watching different cars go head to head down the quarter mile.
This year certainly didn’t disappoint. I think you can safely say there isn’t too many places in motor sport where you would see an r33 skyline battling a Subaru forester!
At straightliners there’s usually a show and shine section. This year’s one attracted some interesting cars.
The super clean Gold Gotti wearing Bora was on show from dubshed.
And this super awesome Golf Variant which was at the show last year, this time it was wearing some amazing looking BBS rs2’s.
Oh no!
It was cool to see a Forester STI on display, you never really see these. It would have been interesting to see this run the 1/4 mile.
This DC1 Integra was sitting right on some XXR 501’s.
A beautiful looking EF9 on some period correct Mugen RnR’s. It just goes to show how this look has been going the 80’s and could never go out of style.
The cl7 accord estates are quite rare also.
There’s just never enough s2000’s floating about.
FD2’s are such an awesome car.
This 33’s engine bay was super bling. Spot the finger….
Like I said there was all kind’s of cars on show. Usually when someone tries to do something to a Clio, it never comes out looking as cool as this.
Credit to the owner for building this EP3. One of the more unloved cars in the civic family especially in Ireland because of how most people go about styling them. Usually these can bee seen wearing 17″ rims or bigger and gigantic mudflaps. Luckily enough the owner of this one just added a type r kit and has the car Nicely stanced on some 16″ Rota grids. The car itself was super tidy and really shows the potential of what can be done looks wise to an EP3. Good job.
The bikes that take part in straightliners are insane, running 10 second 1/4 miles or less. Its epic to watch.
You really don’t have too many chances if you mess up.
Go ferio!
It was an unusually nice day, which wasn’t exactly the best for Honda’s but anything is better then the rain that came last time around.
Oh Snap!
This ae101 is super awesome. Probably the nicest example in the country.
The event was easily 80% Honda….
This would be a good explanation why… I’m sure Mr Mercedes got a shock when this happened.
A certain person has definitely started a 4th gen Prelude trend! Super cheap h22 fun.
How could you ever hate on this mk1 fiesta?
Aside from the level of Honda’s there was a good turnout of other makes ready to battle.
Pretty much anything could race. It was all up to whoever you line up against.
The times were recorded and each car was put into a different class. Pulsar v EG6…
Aside from being yellow, this corolla is definitely what you would class as sleeper status. Under the bonnet lays an unexpected 3sgte!
Loved how clean this 98 spec dc2 looked each time it hit the straight.
Gearoid was holding it down for the lack of AE111’s at the event.
Always nice to see some American Muscle like this Pontiac Trans Am making an appearance.
There really is nothing like a super clean BNR32.
The one pictures above was crazy clean. Peeking inside you could see some Mines clock’s and other tasty treats. The car just looked so correct on those Koenig Special wheels.
