Drift: Mondello Drift Practice/Tsunami Appeal

I was glad to finally get a chance to cover the Mondello practice, which is held once a month at Mondello Circuit. Each time it had been on so far I couldn’t make it due to some nonsense in hospital but seems how everything was getting better, it was good to get out and start covering again! The day definitely lived up to my expectations. Everybody from all different levels of skill had the chance to hit the track and hone their skills.

Watching drivers from all different levels out on the track together is definitely entertaining. People really seem to push harder.

Plenty of people had brought their drift weapon of choice. From built cars to drift slags carrying all different types of battle scars. Patching the bodywork or taking off whatever was in the way to go back out and push that little bit harder.

Even this mean Micra was rocking some damage!

Mikes 32 was looking good! A nice contrast to Pete’s 1000 euro missile spec r32.

This Aristo was such a torque monster, always cool to see such a large car drifitng.

Especially when you hear the whine of a supercharged V8 under the bonnet!

There was such a variety of cars at the practice day. Still dominated by the Nissan the paddockhad its share of toyotas too like this soarer for example which is a rare enough car on our shores.

You could easily tell this rps13 gets used.

Its always entertaining when a group of cars would come around the Dunlop bend and head for the straight in every type of direction!

Just imagine a lift home from a night on the town in this taxi!

Watching Ffrench give it everything each time he brought someone for a spin was simply amazing.

Giving it 110% each lap resulted tires looking like this pretty quickly!

And this…. Yes that is the pieces of what used to be an arch which now laid smoldering on the straight! Such an entertaining driver.

Appropriately scuffed S bodies..

Amy Griffin was throwing herRX7 sideways. Nice to see a lady behind the wheel showing people how its done especially in an FC.

Love the look of this Sileighty

Always  a pleasure to watch Donal Garry’s AE86 doing its thing. One of the most entertaining cars to watch at a drift event.

This Aristo used to reside in Tramore and with a change of hands the car now sits that bit lower where it belongs on Weds Krane Cereberus wheels.

Chris Brady had brought his SR86 which even though unfinished, already looked mental.

Adam O’Connor’s S14 looked good going sideways or parked.

So good to see Dariusz back on his feet and already started on another car. You may remember the incident with his DA a few months back.

This S14 was going at it all day.

People were using the pit wall as a clipping point which created quite a crowd!

Plenty of Rubber burning from this SR86

While some people had retired or brought their cars in for adjustments and repairs, others continued out on track as people took advantage of the unusual Irish weather.

Ffrench was top speed all day. Plenty of people showed up to donate money to the cause. Due to the demands, other drivers stepped up to take on some of the passenger rides to make sure everyone had their turn.

Alan Lenihan’s strawberry faced s13 was out for a test. After seeing so many bumperless cars with scars on the track it was unusual to see such a spotless looking drift car…

The complete opposite to the above pic was Micheal Sheehan’s mad max looking s13, even without wings or a bumper or even a boot it still looked good.

This panda is always one of the most entertaining cars to watch.

Two memorable shots that will stay in the brain for a long time to come will be the speed Ffrench would take the first corner after the straight….

And Dan Moorhead redefining the term sideways in his BN kitted s14. So good to hear that Martin and the guys had raised over 600 euros on the day for the victims of Japan, and that drift community was there to support. Hope to see you all at the next one.
