Meet: Vag Meet @ Treacys Portlaoise
Its no secret that the Japanese scene has a bigger following in Ireland then the German when it comes to cars, but in saying that the German car following has really come on again in the past few years with the younger generation. There seems to be cars popping up all over the place and its a different take to the older generation who appreciate the more standard looking car. We decided to head to the Treacy’s in Portlaoise meet which had been organised by members of Vagdrivers.net. I really wanted get more of a variety up on the site, and the Portlaoise meet would show the variations in styling from the different generations of enthusiast of the VAG scene.
Coming up on Treacy’s car park it looked there was a sizeable crowd Out of the car it was cool to see a B1 Passat. It has definitely been a long long time since I had seen one in the flesh.
The American scene is definitely having an influence on the Volkswagen scene worldwide. The idea of proper wheel fitment and clean low Volkswagen is whats slowly saving the A3 Jetta/Vento’s from the crusher. This Vento A3 was nice and clean with the US rear plate surround and the Audi A8 rims.
Another A3 taking influence from the states with the roof rack. Great to see another one in a clean condition on some BBS RS replica’s. These cars have great potential.
A clean humble looking mk1 which definitely looked its age but added to its character.
It was cool to see the MK1 against a Scirocco 1.
The Scirocco was looking very clean for its age.
You cant really argue with a MK1 GTI on BBS RS rims. Its a perfect match.
There was no shortages of Clean Mk2 Golf’s. Again you cant really lose with BBS.
This MK2 had a semi rat look going on up front.
A lot of people are on the fence about this whole look.
I guess when its done right it looks good. This MK2 looked good with the GTI wings and a nice wheel offset on the OEM steelies.
Another cleanly executed Mk2 sitting on some red meshed BBS RM’s.
The ATS Cups look perfect under the arches.
The Schmidt modern line 1-tlg’s go down a treat on most Golf’s it seems.
This is definitely one of the nicest MK3 Golfs in the country. Sitting proud wearing Schmidt TH line’s.
The BBS CH were sitting just right on this clean MK5 GTI
I spy a Shocker sticker…
It was great to see an A4 without this whole “felt” look which is slowly sweeping the nation. Just a clean car sitting low on BBS LM’s. These cars have great potential as seen here.
Another car with so much potential is the e30. These have started to become rare over the last few years which is a shame because when done right they look amazing.
This 4door E46 looked very tasty, great to see people finally doing stuff with these cars.
This is definitely one of the nicest A4 Bora’s in the country. Nice and low with a not so shy relationship between the wheel and arch. Credit definitely goes to the owner for going this route.
Whats not to like about a mint looking Corrado on Borbet A’s? There should have been a few more Corrados at the meet.
You cant really go wrong with one of the most iconic wheels of the euro scene, another example of a clean A3 Jetta/Vento on some Ronal R10 Turbo’s.
Definitely one of the best looking Jetta’s in the country. This is a perfect example of the A3’s potential in Ireland.
Speaking of potential this MK5 on some Carlsoon’s was definitely an example of Ireland showing how it can build cars just as clean as anywhere else.
It also shows that we too can allow arch and tires to get very close and intimate!
I was very surprised by this MK4 Golf estate, it really did look like something straight out the US, especially with the USDM Jetta boot door. The car just didn’t belong in Ireland, but I mean that in the best way possible.
The front end had been swapped for a Bora which looks the business. The car was standing out in all the right way’s. Especially when its sitting on some tasty forged BLQ’s from Rotiform in the US, it seems no corners were cut to get the look down. A very impressive car indeed. We were definitely surprised with the turnout, there was some good stuff on show. Hopefully we can start making our way to more of these and cover the broader spectrum of movements in the car scene in Ireland over the coming months.
