Garage Life: Graiguenamanagh’s K20 DC2 First run

I guess there could be a few more images which we could stick up about the build, but the car is more or less done, so we will fast forward, oh no wait. There is no need to, the car was built in just under three weeks, which is insane. The car went from being a four eyed duster, to a k20 NA beast. The car rolled up to Tullow on a trailer for its first run. This was the first time the car would actually drive. The thing had eaten fuel lines which ended up causing some problems, not wanting to attract too much attention, the car was hauled into one of the grain sheds to be setup. Preferably everyone was going to wait until Tullow had cleared of people so proper testing could begin….

Finally everything was sorted, and the car was almost ready to go, just some final prep was needed to be done to ensure the car was safe to hit the road. The little new 5 litre fuel tank was filled and the car turned over on all four cylinders, which was a good thing you would agree! You can definitely excuse the white under the bonnet as the car is still away from being fully finished, but is more or less there.

I wonder where the paint scheme came from?

People had stuck around to get a glimpse of this warrior, its caused quite a stir on the interweb. By the looks of it everyone had positive things to say. It truly does look different.

The inside was almost completely stripped besides the dash and seat. The amount of weight which has been shed was impressive. Some perspex windows have also been added. The car just looks mean, even though there is more to go. It was cool to see everyone take such a positive look towards the car, which Jamie was worried about when he started out this project, worrying that it might not be as good as he though.

But once that K20 turned over, and the car took a shot down the strip, id imagine it was all worth it. This engine in the eg6 was pushing high twelves, id imagine everyone is curious to see what the engines new home will push.

Id imagine that nobody would have ever though those two colours would go together, but they work so well. Its definitely another one of those love/hate cars.

Some four eyed love is always good, and its great to see that someone has finally gone and built one on this side of the pond, and one that isnt white. Check the calipers, which completely fill the spokes!

After a couple of runs up and down the strip it was apparent that this thing was a monster, hearing that K20 scream for more was like candy to the ears. Im glad the guys pulled it and that it was more or less such a smooth build. Its definitely going to receive alot of attention over the coming year. Once the car has been run in for a few minutes, everything seemed to be more or less ok in terms of the mechanics and that, just a couple more tweaks and everything should be ready to go.

After all that weight shaving, the car was popped up onto the weighing scales to kill the curiosity. The car weighed in at an impressive 840kg! For a big DC2 shell, thats damn impressive. You certainly have to give credit for a car that was built in a place with a very large name!

The car was built more with function in mind, but once this is fully finished im sure it will be up there as one of the coolest DC2’s in the country. Even as it sat that evening in Tullow it was already looking damn good, its amazing what a bunch of friends can build in a shed!!! Stay tuned for this car, im sure you will be seeing this DC2 in the near future, and id imagine its one to watch out for. Stay tuned for a feature on this car also when everything is in order and the car is fully complete. Good job chaps!
