Prodrift Round 3: Citywest 2010 Pt 2
Another round of Prodrift, and another Irish car show where mother nature was good to us. I have to give a big shout to Simon Connaughton for hooking me up with images of the final 16. We ended up getting in a crash the night before Prodrift and decided to be cool and stay up buzzing from what happened and drove to Dublin. What a bad choice, as soon as the ” adrenaline” and monster (thank fuck for that but only sometimes because you will piss green) we collapsed and the stiffness settled in. All good fun.. Sort of.
Its crazy, security was a lot more serious at this event. We walked about 15 times out on the road from the pit area to the paddock and show area because the track cut everything in half. That was good fun but when I was heading back fro the media briefing I lurked this snap right outside as Donal Garry was melting some tires clean off his Hachi. Always good to see.
The track was fast, and as no one had ever ran this track before there was a delicious amount of dings and slams. All good for the spectators.
Thank fuck for the tires.
It wouldn’t be a drift event without some sort of grave yard building up behind the fence over the few days. Broken lights, bumpers, em …. action maybe?
A nice contrast of bits of bumpers lurking behind a barrier as Michael Swan Holds behind Robert Barnett.
The drift trains were amazing as usual. Something that should definitely stay in prodrift. Its the best part of the day in my opinion because of how how much each car hits and just how good it is when it all works out.
Something alot of people may take for granted just how insane it is when two cars touge. The amount of smoke which smothers the car chasing is insane and visibility is almost zero but drivers just seem to hold in there. It basically driving blindfolded at a nice speed and on top of all that there is a track to follow and some sideways stuff to be done. Its amazing.
Just because you can.
Such an epic capture. Poor bumper didn’t stand a chance!
Some lining up action in the pit. Yeah I know… I cant get enough of that s14 either.
It looks even better doing some slidey sideways action.
Jay rockett shwoing some sideways action for Drift Ireland.
Was loving this 1jz Ps13 all day long.
Denis Healy and his hachi in kill mode on the day. Im sure the little car was loving every second of it.
James Deane was on fire as he scored the highest super lap of the day.
Nigel Colfer’s strawberry faced rps13 getting close to the wall. Check out Paddy’s feature over at speedhunters if you havent seen it yet.
The top 16 rolled out.
First battle up was James Deane against Donal Garry’s little Hachi that could. That car is loved by so many, and for good reason. Sadly the corolla just couldnt keep to Deanes sr20 powered FD.
Next up was Championship leader Nigel Colfer against UK’s Paul Chesire’s delicious s14. Chesire was definitely a favourite of the weekend with his massive entries in style with some aggressive as fuck stance, but it would be Colfer who would come out victorious in this s-chassis battle.
Team Hanhook’s Alan sinnott managed to shake Dan Moorehead’s always entertaining s-chassis.
It would be Nexen’s Christy Carpenter who would seal the deal into the great 8 over Mike Fitzgerald and his Bridgestone sileighty.
Danny Eyles was on point as he took out Dean “Karnage” Kearney who couldn’t seem to get used to his borrowed sc300 from Butsy Butler.
2009 Champion Mike Deane moved on from another s-chassis battle defeating Micheal Swan.
Orange vs apple, or maybe just Chris Brady, whos coming up strong , who managed to advance over Steven Bolger for the great 8.
The final in the top 16 saw Gavin Lenihan in attack mode over Shane O Sullivan but we don’t have any super duper photo for that so close your eyes imagine a nice warm beach, the water is splashing up to say hello as it rushes through your feet, you can hear the birds as they fly in the cool breeze which touches your… erm yeah.
First battle of the Great 8 saw both drivers Deane and Colfer who battled at Punchestown go head to head. It would be Dean who would manage to come away from this battle victorious.
Christy Carpenter’s BN sports s15 holding it down for Nexen this year just couldnt shake Sinnotts ae86 who advanced from this round in true tyre smoking style.
Japspeed’s Danny Eyles was back on the track, but not for long as 3rd gear said goodbye in the first round. It would be Mike Deane who would move on from this battle.
The final 8 battle was settled between Northern chirs bradys s14 and Gavin Lenihan’s s15 fronted rps13. The crowd showed there love for Lenihan’s performance as he moved onto the semi finals.
Another proper battle went down amongst two of the crowds most favourite drivers, and cars for that matter. It would be James Deane against Alan Sinnotts Beastly looking hachi, James and his sr20 powered FD would come out victorious in the first of the semi finals.
Sinnott took third from this tough battle over Brady. It was nice to see the Hachi hit the podium again. Great driving from Brady, who has been coming up real strong lately.
The final battle was family, two brothers both looking for the same thing. This was an amazing battle as two brothers went door to door but, it would be James who would come out victorious over older brother Mike. It seems James is unstoppable. Another cool day, well as much of it as I got to see. Cheers again to Simon for the snaps. Stay tuned for the next round at Japfest and hopefully there will be a nice video to go with this the next time.
