Prodrift Round 2: Punchestown 2010 Pt 2
I’m glad the paddock section went down well. I figured that there were too many snaps but I guess you can never have too much. This year the course had been made shorter due to some new buildings but this certainly didn’t spoil the entertainment.
Even though the Pro class has shrunk over the last few years, it seems there is no shortage of drivers coming from the semi-pro and amateur class.
One thing I find amazing about drift events is the amount of tire that’s left behind. I took this snap of the ground just after practice and couldn’t believe the amount of rubber which was chilling on the side of the track. Take that environmentalists haha.
A new addition to the Prodrift event was a 4 tandem drift by the teams competing.
I mean who doesn’t enjoy a 4 car tandem drift? Especially on such a tight track. Definitely an enjoyable sight.
As I was just about to write about how much I Enjoyed Donal Garry and his ae86 I seen Paddy McGrath’s Spotlight on this car over at Speedhunters! Its true just as Paddy said Donal was definitely the weekend hero. After enjoying a Nice collision with the barrier on Friday, his spirit was not dampened as he drove his little hachi into the top 16. You have to hand it to him for the commitment and the balls out approach using nitrous and his trusty 20 valve to keep into all the monster powered Nissan’s. Even thought the car is choppy its definitely something that suits the hachi. Missing lights and dented panels all add to the character of the car even though they are never intended. I genuinely enjoy watching this little car up against the others. Check out Paddy’s spotlight over at speedhunters for more.
Team Nexen out for some practice. Makes for a good snap.
Mike Fitzgerald was getting his car sorted for the top 16.
But was unfortunately defeated by Christy Capenter’s 1jz powered purple monster.
Sadly Donal Garry couldnt match the power of Gavin Lenihans s chassis and didnt advance to the top eight.
Im glad I got a shot of JP McCarthy’s bonnet which would flex as his reshelled e36 screamed around the bend at every entry as loud as ever. Mike Deane was out for the kill though as he eliminated JP in this run.
It was cool to see Northern Ireland competitor Chris Brady make it to the top 16, but Alan Sinnott had other plans and advanced to the top eight.
Nigel Colfer was on a mission to advance eliminating Stephen Bolger.
Damien Shortt’s hachi was definitely entertaining but it was Micheal Swan in the ps13 hidden in the smoke who would move on to challenge Nigel Colfer.
Alan Lenihan manged to advance over Martin O’Meara’s s15.
James Deane closed the gate on the top 8 by defeating Larry Love’s kouki s14.
A tough but very exciting battle between Alan Sinnott and Mike Deane, but only one could advance and it was Sinnott who managed to pull ahead to the top 4.
Nigel Colfer was continuing on his mission defeating Michael Swan for a place in the top four.
After an exciting battle, James Deane would be the one to come out on top over Alan Lenihan’s and his Hanhook Silvia.
After things got a little serious, Gavin Lenihan eventually beat Alan Sinnott to advance on to the final.
In this match between Nigel Colfer and James Deane it would be Colfer who would come out on top to Battle Alan Lenihan in the final.
Alan Sinnott would land himself third place over James Deane.
It would be Nigel Colfer, who in the battle of the black strawberry faced s-chassis would come out on top over Gavin Lenihan. An enjoyable weekend overall on and off the track with some decent action. Stay tuned for the next r0und in City West in Dublin.
