Event: Enniskillen (now with added video)
So I had been following Magoo’s Turbo Dc2 build to where it would be finally tested, at Straightliners in Enniskillen. I decided to give a hand the day before which ended up being an all nighter as we tried to get the car back together before it was trailered and brought up north. There was mapping going on right up till the car was loaded up. This is how strapped for time everyone was as the deadline crept up so quick.
The car had already blown a radiator which was pulled from a SOHC and a new one had been located. Some more bad news decided to come Magoo’s way when he found out the tires he had ordered still hadn’t arrived so they had to find some tires quick before we set sail for Enniskillen. Luckily some tires were found and we loaded everything on to the trailer and headed up north. This was all happening about 6 hours before the event!. Tommy and Tractor were rolling in the x5 and had the Dc2 hitched to the back. I decided to jump in with the guys as it was going to be a long night and what better way to enjoy this then the back of a BMW. But i was wrong. we were doing 100+ on the road to Dublin as I was looking back waiting for the car to come off the trailer, with that and Tommy and Tractor arguing over absolutely everything I got about 15 minutes of sleep max. ha ha. fun. We came to a station just by the airport at around 7am and decided to attach the stickers to the car. As we had run out of time luck was on no ones side as the sticker machine in mad racing the day before decided it didn’t like anything i designed so Tom made some makeshift stickers for the car so it wouldn’t be fully bare. That morning we added a little few extra to rep The Nwfo!!!
Taylor and the custom makeshift logo at 7 am, not a bad job after no of sleep whatsoever.
The gates opened at around 9 am and we got in and found a spot to park up. The picture above was the high tech pit area we had built for the day.
The practices started early and as we hadn’t slept yet it felt like 4 in the day because it was getting warmer and warmer by the hour and there was no shelter to be found anywhere. This was any gingers nightmare specially for one that brought no suncream haha. I guess you cant trust the Irish weather.
This silvia had that need for speed vibe going on. It was a tad smokey also as you can see.
Kenny Wylies evo 6 was looking good. There was carbon everywhere. It also scored the quickest of the day with a 9.93 as its fastest. What a car.
A clean silver ek9 ctr with an itr lurking in the background.
The cars started do go one after another. The event was cool because once you signed up you could hit as many runs as you wanted all day by just getting back inline and then collecting your times at the end.
Click on this pic to see the expression on everyone face with the side exit on Magoo’s ITR, People didn’t know what the fuck was going on under that bonnet haha.
Colm Taylor, the man of the day. He was top speed all day running around helping with whatever was going wrong. I couldn’t believe it because I hadn’t slept and neither did he and he was still full of energy buzzing and fixing stuff. From 4 days out in Magoo’s house building and mapping the car right up to the night before and then straight into the next day, still fixing stuff. Mister Energy. I wish I had a bit more of that going on.
If this picture wasn’t in this post you would have no clue what just happened. It looks like someone raided a car or just dumped a bunch of random seats and stuff here. This was a common sight of the day as everyone pulled every possible part that wasn’t needed from the car to shave that extra bit of a run.
Martin Tracey’s Evo pulled second on the day with a 10.63.
Big brother and little brother the eg and ek always looking good in yellow.
The people lined up all day. The sun got more intense and Honda’s had a little cry. Well not really but you know what I mean.
Clodagh is in front of the line and did pretty well on the day with a full interior.
This Ford Granada was the biggest sleeper of the day. With a V8 lurking just under the bonnet.
Two ek4s both the same colour but done going two different directions.
More civics. There was a nice set of mugens hidden in the back of the eg. There was some clean examples of Civics up there on the day.
Two brothers, two egs, two k20s, two ill stop now.
I loved this fiesta. It was just clean and looked cool and its nice to see one in such a good condition and done clean and simple. The arches made it look mean, and there’s not too many around these days.
I had never seen this car before Enniskillen. The guy who owns it said he was only there to show the car for sponsors. He uses it for hill climbing but it was the fastest fwd car of the day.
B18 and turbod it was clean and pulled a 12.65 overall.
Its unusual to say this but that is a mean looking nova with that front mount cut into the bumper and grill.
Magoo’s replacement radiator was having fun again, the heat was definitely not helping.
It was ok though, magic Taylor came to the rescue again at top speed and as hyper as ever, the hat was definitely giving him some magic powers.
Barry came up from Waterford as well with Dunne and the crew to get some times.
There was a lot of Honda’s there, all going for it.
There was a few s14 as well which was weird.
I couldn’t talk here without mentioning the bikes. I wish i had brought more memory cards because I would have shot a few more of the bikes. If you fall off you are finished. The acceleration was fucking insane it almost looked like the were being slingshot off of the starting line.
The Granada had a V8 6.5 Ltr and was pulling times of 11.27. It was insane to see such a car with so much grunt and power and look so casual from the outside with all the original interior.
Eventually Magoo’s radiator blew. The car pulled a 12.84 which was cool for a car which was built so fast and still wasn’t run in or have the proper parts or tyres. Next time im sure he will get what he was going for when the car is fully finished.
Sean was testing his magic boot as a parachute to slow down when he was stopping.
Its nice to see some clean sierras in action.
Something you don’t see everyday. Two brothers with two egs and k20s going head to head.
Jamie pulled a 12.94 with his yellow k20 powered eg.
This thing looked cool from far away. I was excited to see that the northern Ireland Police actually had an evo as a pursuit car.
As you got closer you were still impressed by this. Its a good thing they haven’t coped on to this in the south yet.
They went a little overboard with it though as you can see with the custom logos stitched into the Recaros
And that hideous sound system molded into the back. I started talking to one of the officers about it and he said the car was decommissioned from the police force and was now a show car which they used to target young people about the dangers of the road. They went on to say you can build a car like this and still have fun. He also told me that he wanted to keep it real and that they wanted keep it “street” and cool and appeal to people. I really feel they are behind a few years with there image of cool and “street”. There was a strong smell of Paul Walker off the whole situation so i decided to get out of there fast.
Some people aren’t as lucky as others. This s14 went boom just after the show and it must have sucked because they looked like they drove to the show. Hope everything worked out for them in the end.
I decided to go for a hunt around the car park to see what was going on or if there was anything else worthy of checking out.
This evo was looking clean as fuck. The bottles just add to it hahah……
Clean altezza from Waterford.
Not to be mean but what the fuck??? I was speechless when i seen this. For that money done to kill that poor car he could have made this or this haha or even this. Well not for that money but you know what we mean.
This em1 was beautiful. Its the perfect example of a clean civic coupe done properly.
The back was stanced just nice. It was looking really clean and id love to see it again.
This ef was also looking sweet on te37s. Such a nice example of a clean OEM looking ef.
Sometimes the more simple the better. There was nothing major going on with the civic it just looked right with white rays and that red pinstripe.
It could have gone with a better stance on them wheels but none the less the r34 always has that aggressive look, there such a nice car.
Overall Enniskillen was a good day. Its nice to see the legal drag scene grow, Ireland is in serious need of a proper drag strip and this has been the best Ive seen so far in terms of just going, queuing up and taking runs down the track. Its a shame because more and more people are becoming interested in the scene and Ireland keeps ignoring the fact that there should be a place were people can do this and build proper drag cars and get proper times. There’s no point in people pushing themselves and building proper drag spec cars if the only place they will ever get to test them are runways and horse tracks. Its a shame but I guess maybe someday things will be different. Ill shut up now and let you know that there is more updates coming real soon so stay tuned.
Big shout out to Tommy and Tractor for the entertaining trip up and back!! haha An unforgettable experience.
