Feature: Freshly Squeezed
The owner of this car over thinks, but this is possibly one of his best qualities, the attention to detail in this car is stunning, and only get better. It takes Barry a long time to think about where a sticker should be placed, what colour, if it will stick out too much, clash with other colours on the car, look right and be in the right place. I love this about Barry and his perception of how a car should look. The amount of thought that goes into each part of the car would scare most people but it’s what has helped him to slowly craft one of the best EK9′s in Ireland.
Feature: From Rags to Riches
The phrase “from rags to riches” was the last thing I wanted to call this feature, but the more Peter told me the story I couldn’t believe how the car had turned out. Eventually I realised after trying to come up with something a little bit more imaginative, this car truly earned the title. The common build we see in the United States of a bog standard civic being converted into a flawless masterpiece in both the exterior and interior is really something that has only started to come around over here in Ireland over the last few years.
Random Juice: Timeless
It doesn’t get more timeless then this, a white EK9 sitting on Desmond Regamaster EVOs. Show me this car in another 10 years and regardless of what trends are around then I’m sure it will retain the same appeal.
Meet: Honda Meet @ Midway court
So last sunday brought another Honda meet up in Portlaoise in the carpark at Midway court, the good thing about Midway court is it has a subway and is very central for everyone from all different counties to make the trip. I know your wondering about the picture above also, we managed to get stuck in a High nellie world record on the way up, which was extremely amusing to say the least.I really had no idea there was that many High nellie’s left not to mention useable! I’m sure they bet the record as there really wouldnt be any comparison!
Car Spotting: Who’s the Rarest of them all?
This Pheonix Yellow 98 Spec DC2 has been around for a few years now, a daily driven car which has been kept more or less standard. Many of you will know just how incredibly rare a Genuine Yellow DC2 is, and more of you will also know just how rare the yellow Recaro’s from factory in this yellow beauty are. The entire car has remained intact since 1999.
Event Japfest PT2
What I love about Japfest is the amount of racing and activities that are on throughout the day as well as the show thats inside the paddock. It can be a somewhat overhwleming task to cover everything as you have time attack, Prodrift, drag racing and track time on all at the same time. There’s something for everyone.
Event: Japfest 2011 PT1
So it has to be openly said this was one of the best events the country had seen in a long time. The most important part was the amount of effort people put in the make it to the show. The recession was winning the battle and probably still is in many minds when it comes to cars. Things were looking very gloomy but I have to admit, heatwave and then Japfest brought a very positive vibe back into the scene.
Event: Japfest Carpark watch 2011
It has to be said that Japfest 2011 was such a good day, not because team need for speed came to town… which don’t get me wrong was a good part of it too, the amount of people and cars that showed up was really something. It just goes to show that the scene is still holding it down regardless of this economic bullshit. Everyone should give themselves a pat on the back for effort. The car park usually has just as much interesting machines as the show your attending, that’s why here at Juicebox we love lurking the car park to see what the people are driving.
Event: Juicebox BBQ: The Squeeze 2011
So we decided to get a bunch of friends together and have a Juicebox BBQ, a sort of thank you to everyone who has been down for the website and what we are doing over the last year or so. Things have been growing strongly with the site and its scary to think of just many people are down with the Box. The weather was on our side in what has to have been the worst summer in a very long time but we managed to get a good cross section of cars which that pretty much represented what the website is all about. As someone stated in the comments from the heatwave coverage, here at Juicebox were all about Photoshopped wheels on second hand cars from a dealership. Take a look and you will see what we mean.
Event: Heatwave 2011 PT2
Like we were saying in part 1 it really seemed like the standard has suddenly rose for the quality of cars in the country at shows. Looking around you had a good variety of super clean interesting builds like this IS bagged on SSR Vienna’s. What an amazing car, its nice to see people go down the VIP route, something that hasn’t been explored to much yet in Ireland.
Web Mining: Partner/Orthia Type R
Every now and again a conversation arises where someone will talk about the Honda othria/partner and how its basically an EK estate. I decided tosick up these pictures I had lurking on the hardrive of Partner type R conversion in yes you guessed it Japan.
Event: Tullow Drag Days: 17/7/11
I hate to open a post with a picture of rain, but I guess that’s just apart of our culture in Ireland, rain creeps into pretty much any interest or outdoor social event. Its always bound to creep up on you when you least expect it or want it. We decided to make the trip up to Tullow, a place where many of you know by now you can pay to drag race to your hearts content all day till you run out of fuel or maybe something else. We ended up missing Prodrift and Enniskillen due to some unforeseen circumstances, but that’s what happens.
Meets: Old School Honda Meet
We decided to take a trip to Portlaoise, its usually the best place for everyone to meet as its a pretty central part of Ireland to get people to show up. The biggest problem it seems these days when it comes to car meet’s is a decent turn up. What was good about this meet was even though there wasnt a crazy turnout the quality of some of the cars that showed up was awesome.
Feature: Raising DA Standard
Darren’s DA6 needs no introduction at this stage. I’m sure most people throughout the Irish car scene know this car. It’s just one of those cars which goes beyond many people’s expectations of what a DA6 Integra or even a Honda for that matter should look like in Ireland. I have a personal love for cars like this because when Darren was building this car he aimed beyond the standard many people set for themselves here in Ireland which was the same goal with this website. Don’t get me wrong, we have some great cars in this country, but quite a few of the country’s population when it comes to cars are quite reserved, and most usually settle for a clean looking “tidy” example, or something similar rarely venturing outside the box. When Darren was building this car he looked towards the land of opportunity aka the United States. A country where by chasing the JDM style over the years and perfecting their version of what they thought was JDM they essentially created their own off style which is mostly now referred to as USDM by the rest of the world. Now we could get all technical about the term USDM but that would be just sidetracking.
Prodrift Round 2 2011: Fermoy Carpark Watch
With every decent car Event Ireland, it usually means a somewhat decent selection of cars that have been driven to the event by you, the car enthusiast. This time we went lurking the car at Prodrift Fermoy to see what you guys showed up in, its a g glimpse into what the scene is like at the minute and most of the time we find some good and some bad gems lurking amongst the crowd.
Car spotting: More like this!
I have to admit, this car is eye catching. The Irish car scene is changing and has been for the last few years, some people will argue that we are years behind the Japanese and the American’s and others will argue against it, because plenty of times cars have popped up around the country that could easily be on par with similar cars around the world. At the end of the day the scene itself will always be filled with mixed emotions on what’s hot and what’s not. What I like about this car is the fact its part of this whole new generation of “JDM” of “OEM” styling. Its like the scene had to get completely crazy with all the insane body kits and coloured interiors, insane ICE installs and 19 inch rims and then someone hit the reset button and it all went back to zero.
Straightliners Spring 2011 PT1
It was that time of year again to head from the very south of Ireland up to the north. Straight liners was about to begin again and we expected another turbo journey to lay ahead of us. Surprising enough this time around all the new motorways had been fully open and we actually made it from Waterford to Enniskillen in about 3 hours abiding by the speed limit. This is one of the most exciting drag racing events in Ireland, well to be honest there isn’t too many. The best thing about Straighliners is the fact that you just don’t know whats going to show up.
Car Spotting: Bug Eye Love
A car that gets little love in Ireland is the Bug eye Integra, many have shunned the car or spend money like the Americans on conversion’s . It seems four eyes lurk in the shadown of the famous brother.
Feature: The J’s Racing CRX

Most people in the Honda scene all over the world know this car, its just one of those cars that has been passed around and talked about for years on forum’s and such via photos. After a long and healthy career tearing up race circuits in Japan, this car is now fortunate enough to reside in the extremely capable hands of the Tuning Factory. And where better to shoot this N/A monster than in the workshop that famously maintains it. This car has the most amazing history of a track car hailing all the way from the land of the rising sun and now the people of Ireland get to witness this amazing spectacle as it sets record times on our home soil.
