Unravelling AE86 History with Old Parts

We unravel a story about an AE86 part while prepping the Trueno for paint.

The TRD, Goodline Bumper and progress

The TRD wing idea worked out perfectly; it all spawned from having Barry over to gap the panels before we permanently added the hinges and how we would try to make the TRD wing look like it was added from the factory, bonding it on to make the perfect fit was exceptional. These photos are from the excellent weather we had in June last year. It killed me driving up and down to Jdmdistro and then on to work on this, but looking back, Im delighted I committed to the mission; it is all the little things that take forever, but as always, I trusted the process with Barry and Jackie who were always enthusiastic about things related to this car.

Enjoy some photos from that month: Tip led, filling the gaps on the roof, collecting the Goodline bumper and painting the hinges, figuring out the perfect fit for the wing, and Dylan’s virgin S13 purchase; this was a good month!

Goodline Delivery Machines

The never-ending selection was such a great moment the day we brought the Goodline bumper down from the distro to the shed; I had bought both the hood and bumper from Rob in Osaka two years previous, and it was a mission to get both of them home. Once I got the bumper, I would probably end up hanging it on the wall as Rob had painted his car black, and the bumper was the last remaining part of the car’s original look. I can see myself getting another good line bumper to use for track use, driving on the road, and mixing it up with the OEM front bumper and early spec lip for times I want to switch the lookup.

Chasing Goodlines With An AE86

Shane is a reserved character. Like I said in the recent video about this car, he keeps to himself. On social media, the odd post here or there about his car pops up, and he’s never actively posting the cool stuff he’s posting in his shed at home.

When I saw his Levin pop up online, it instantly caught my attention. Inspired by the Young Version / Run free collaboration car that famously graced the pages of Hyper Rev magazine and was done pretty much to perfection, I had to reach out and chat.

Hachiroku Heaven: Dream Drive to 86 Fest

I have hundreds of photos from 86 festival, and to be honest, I’m going to post most of them here on the website for others to enjoy. There’s always a severe amount of cars at these events, and with most other websites, people have a limit or try to cut down the size of a post to keep things to a digestible amount. Not here! I’m going to dump pretty much anything I thought was cool onto the site over the next few days, broken up into six different blog posts. Just so you guys can get a comprehensive look at what was arguably the most incredible event I’ve ever been to in my life.

Corner Character

passae865

Almost hidden in the corner of the Toyota gathering a few months back was this AE86. The owner was a little taken back by my interest in it. I tend to obsess over cars with a little character; cars we wish could only speak and share their tales, with faded team stickers, dents holes and scuffs.

Visual switch-ups : MOTORCRAFT 86

Photo 26-01-2016, 16 47 17

David picked up this car from a friend a little over a year ago. Prior to that he has never owned an AE86, but it was high on the list of cars he had to own, and simply put, hard work made that become a reality. It’s taken a very short period of time for David to shape this car to suit his personality, however I can tell you that this car is far from finished, in fact as I write this I know he is planning a change again in the near future.

Possibly the greatest looking aftemarket front bumper for an AE86?

Strictly Business

This car is awesome…. The Toyota popped up once or twice over the years since it was imported in various magazines and forums and I had always wanted to see it in the flesh. The car just looks gangster like it’s up to no good… but for all the right reasons. I’ve always been a huge fan of the Jzx90 Cresta… it is considered the more gangster of the x90 collection and when Ireland had its import boom not too many of these were snatched from the auctions. Any that actually made it to Ireland were either stock or had light modifications. This one is loaded with goodies, and for a good reason, a nice properly used pimp machine.

Feature: Man Crush

It’s obvious to many just how strong the AE86 following is here in Ireland, there was such a ridiculous amount of these cars brought into our little country over the last ten years. Nicky’s 86 was one of these cars; it came in as a slag from Japan, with a collection of desirable goodies. Somehow he managed to build on what many would have called an already awesome car. I have to admit, like many who have seen this car in the flesh, it just makes you smile, it could easily be one of the best looking Trueno’s this little green isle has ever seen.

Random Juice: Perfect execution

Scrolling through the usual bullshit on Bookface and this magically appeared and made me smile….If it wasn’t for the Irish reg on the Trueno behind this Levin you would probably think its somewhere in Japan because of the infamous petrol station photos we always see. Such a perfectly executed AE86. I know there has been two posted today but whose complaining?
