Homologation Hero: The Mk2 Rallye

mk2rl3

This particular Golf was a little bit of a mythical creature. I would see it once or twice a year, more often than not did I have to convince some people that this actually existed; it was like the tooth fairy, or the loch ness monster. Many people weren’t even aware that this homologation even existed. For those that aren’t aware, a homologation special in simple terms is where manufacturer is required to build a road going version of the car they wish to compete with for a particular series or event.

Juicebox : The First Meet PT1

I’m pretty excited that some how I can finally write about a public event we put together. Juicebox has been going for about four years now and well it has been an absolute pleasure being able to capture the car scene and chuck it up here on the website. We had toyed with the idea of putting together something like this for a long time, possibly holding a show, or doing another BBQ, the main fear was that no one would turn up, or if something did it would be a disaster.

That Itch.

This car was bought as a run around, the owner of this pretty immaculate looking mk3 Vento had family in mind. Owning a MK2 Rallye, the Vento would become the more practical day to day car. As most of you out there will agree, nothing ever stays standard for too long and before Noel knew it he was in talks of getting some rust removed from the car….

Event: Fermoy V.A.G. meet

So with an unpredictable Irish summer that we have already been pissed off with, we were very sceptical if it was a good choice to make it out to the V.A.G. meet in Fermoy Co Cork, I’m glad we made a positive choice… If you don’t know this already, or aren’t from this country, in Ireland, the scene is heavily split into a few groups, but it was nice to see the Volkswagen/Audi scene going showcasing some of the best examples this country had to offer all packed inside Cork Marts Car Park, something we just had to cover….

Event: Juicebox BBQ: The Squeeze 2011

So we decided to get a bunch of friends together and have a Juicebox BBQ, a sort of thank you to everyone who has been down for the website and what we are doing over the last year or so. Things have been growing strongly with the site and its scary to think of just many people are down with the Box. The weather was on our side in what has to have been the worst summer in a very long time but we managed to get a good cross section of cars which that pretty much represented what the website is all about. As someone stated in the comments from the heatwave coverage, here at Juicebox were all about Photoshopped wheels on second hand cars from a dealership. Take a look and you will see what we mean.

Car Spotting: Robs Mk2

The Mk2 Golf has always been a true favourite amongst car lovers, in the last few years they have become quite scarce site and even quite a few that are left are either a mint GTI something in between or a standard clean example. Rob decided to build this MK2 on a budget, attending college and trying to build any sort of car is definitely not an easy task. Truth being his budget was pretty limited but that didn’t stop him from using his head and turning out an awesome result.

Random Juice: Free Pose!

We are always asked to get more female action up on Juicebox, at least we got sort of close on this one. A free pose from a Tracksuit under the influence of Linden Village and possibly Dutch Mold. He was more then eager to get his rear end on camera whilst licking the window in the middle of the photoshoot. This should be enough bum to tie you over until Saturday, when we showcase another very nice Volkswagen on the Juicebox in the form of Eddy’s Bagged MK4.

Stay tuned!!!

What the Fuck Wednesday: Mugen Golf GTI

Straightliners Spring 2011 PT1

It was that time of year again to head from the very south of Ireland up to the north. Straight liners was about to begin again and we expected another turbo journey to lay ahead of us. Surprising enough this time around all the new motorways had been fully open and we actually made it from Waterford to Enniskillen in about 3 hours abiding by the speed limit. This is one of the most exciting drag racing events in Ireland, well to be honest there isn’t too many. The best thing about Straighliners is the fact that you just don’t know whats going to show up.

Event: Dubshed PT1

We decided to take the trip up to Dubshed up the North of Ireland. Having missed it the year before I really wanted to  make sure to get it up on the site this time around. As I’ve said many times, the Japanese car scene dominates the south of Ireland. There’s nothing wrong with that at all, to each his own but the intentions of making Juicebox in the first place was to get a good mix of decent cars on the website which represent to finer parts of the Irish car culture. Finding a decent VW down the south really is a hard mission. Yes they do exist. But usually their owners aren’t the type of people to have them on show or really bring them around too often to be photographed. Even finding them online is quite the challenge. We ended up seeing so many car’s from the south at the show which left us scratching our heads wondering where they had come from!

Meet: German Nightlife

I was told of a small VW meet which was happening close to home so I decided to tag along and see what would show up.
This VW caddy was one of the first on the scene. The Mercedes Flat 15 Slot’s looked awesome under the arches. Funny enough they were hand polished and took over two weeks!

Meet: Vag Meet @ Treacys Portlaoise

Its no secret that the Japanese scene has a bigger following in Ireland then the German when it comes to cars, but in saying that the German car following has really come on again in the past few years with the younger generation. There seems to be cars popping up all over the place and its a different take to the older generation who appreciate the more standard looking car. We decided to head to the Treacy’s in Portlaoise meet which had been organised by members of Vagdrivers.net. I really wanted get more of a variety up on the site, and the Portlaoise meet would show the variations in styling from the different generations of enthusiast of the VAG scene.

Feature: Few and Far Between

freddie-mk5-11

Freddie’s Golf is definitely a rare breed around the south of Ireland. While the MK5 Golf is in plentiful supply, its rare to find one which had been perfectly executed with such clean style. Its true that in Ireland, the Euro scene is nowhere near as big as the Japanese scene. I’m going to go ahead and say that for two reasons: Number one, because it may just be true. Its hard to find a Golf or another Euro car for that matter that has been done to this kind of standard. Hopefully Reason two is because I want people who may have something along the lines of this golf to read this and get angry and contact the site for a feature because its damn near impossible to find you out there!
