How cool is this JZX81? Our friend Rob imported this last summer for a customer, and he called down once it was on the road. I was floored when I saw it in real life. The car is a time capsule from the millennium era of VIP culture.
If you watch the vlogs, you are probably aware of how this shoot came about. Just after we finished up taking photographs of Johns Sileighty, he mentioned his friend Padraig who had a pretty tasty selection of cars not far from the photoshoot location.
Two eighties babies, the last of them crossing over into the nineties, both signing off that era of styling for Japan.
After years of shooting cars for the website, there has been many a car which I missed out on, occasionally you think cars are going to be around forever and you keep a somewhat relaxed attitude to arranging a shoot. Before you know it the car has been broke for parts or left the country and you are left thinking about the missed opportunities. This x81 shoot was in the making for quite some time.

We decided to try and make it to the first event on the car calendar this year… round one of the IDC and Modified Live… Mondello’s own idea of a car show that to say the least looked like a bare version of Japfest… Even saying that a few unusual beasts made an appearance that more or less made the trip worth it.
This car is awesome…. The Toyota popped up once or twice over the years since it was imported in various magazines and forums and I had always wanted to see it in the flesh. The car just looks gangster like it’s up to no good… but for all the right reasons. I’ve always been a huge fan of the Jzx90 Cresta… it is considered the more gangster of the x90 collection and when Ireland had its import boom not too many of these were snatched from the auctions. Any that actually made it to Ireland were either stock or had light modifications. This one is loaded with goodies, and for a good reason, a nice properly used pimp machine.
