AE86 Track Day 2013

Ah, another AE86 track day. Anyone who follows this blog will know how much we enjoy this chassis. Anytime there is a track day for the 86 movement it always brings a very interesting selection of cars.

Ireland has to have one of the most solid loves for the AE86 in the world. We literally stole thousands of them from Japan. On top of buying these out of Japan we have all the goodies and people around the country manage to build some incredible examples time and time again. No other movement inside the car scene seems to be as good.

Just having a lurk around the Paddock area on a very unusually sunny day, one couldn’t help but smile at all the different high quality variations. Anything from this coupe on mkII’s…

To this Bride inspired drift machine rocking an F20 powerplant and a delicious set of Dori wheels…

The 86 day brings quite a collection of other vehicles every year from the same manufacturer like the Daihatsu Charmant, a popular choice for people to plug and play AE86 parts. Peep the TRD Toscos up front.

Patrick’s Track car would be above standard for most road cars, rocking deep Watanabes and Hayashi’s.

This MCN build was rocking a set of slicks at the rear…

This works… simple, clean and nice in the sun.

Che was out in his N2 car for both grip and drift all day…

Apparently this was pulled out from under a tree.. for some reason with the super fat Watanabe’s and unclean neglected exterior it looked so enjoyable…

It looked even better out on track.

Spotted two chicks in this out in the car park. Looked like a fresh paint job but it was nice to see a 2 door not being used as a track slag.

The track day also bring a couple of other interesting machines like this Roadster…

Or this freshly finished S2k.. nice to see the bar being raised with these cars in terms of aesthetics…

Always been a fan of this Levin. It looks like the brother of Sean’s Trueno.

Which was rocking SSR Professors on the rear for the day. I decided to get a nice grip picture of his car for a change.

And maybe one drift picture, which just looked fake! He was inches from being slammed into but it all worked out in the end…

Looking around at a couple of other Toyotas that had made an appearance, this Corolla was 3sgte 4wd… a proper sleeper!

This rps13 was looking good in the sun, rocking Cr kai replicas.

This 2 door looked pretty tough. The SR20 is a popular conversion these days. Cheap power, with plenty of results it seems.

It was a complete shock that no rain had fallen all day. The weather had been insane the last couple of weeks, with snow rain and now an actual clear day.

Someday….

A series Carina!! This needs some Japanese shoes. What an enjoyable and rare looking beast.

I do enjoy everything about this Corolla.

Willy was out in the 20 valve Charmant, but had gear trouble so his enjoyment was short lived.

The TRD wing looks so damn good. Love this 2 door.

What’s not to like about this? I Couldn’t get enough of the Black with Black centred MKII’s.

The poor AE111’s are being killed of left right and centre, it was enjoyable to see simple clean example sitting on white Rays TRD T3 wheels.

A V300 is always easy on the eyes.

The E70 coming in hard at Dunlop was fun to watch. The track action was enjoyable all day long, different variations of the Corolla out battling against other random Japanese metal.

Team Tekno always bringing style…

An A for effort with this EP starlet…

Nothing better than seeing a collection of Hachi’s screaming past.

One more of this 2 door…

Always been a big fan of this Crystal Body Yokohama kitted Levin on sizeable offset Watanabes. Such a timeless look.

Good to see this F20 powered Trueno back in action. Hopefully we can feature this soon. Such a sick car in the flesh.

The noise of the 4a-ge down the back straight never gets old.

I always end up taking too many pictures at these track days, just because there is always too much to snap and take in…

Don’t confuse this with a picture from the late 90’s/early millennium in Japan…  Easily the best time for car style… Killians car is too good.

Older brother chasing the younger… Bryan brought his FF daily 101 for a little FF attack…

Johnny P brought his cheaply acquired AE111 to chase people down until it almost became a drift car!

The sun! The day had turned out to be a complete winner, plenty of good cars and lots of track time.

Ironic that Toyota made these as a somewhat cheap get around car. I wonder if people would have expected them to have such a following 30 years later. Its pretty handy that Toyota used an almost identical Chassis to the AE86.

I hadn’t seen this KP61 in a long time. Such a good car/colour combination.

Its hard to compete with a Japanese KP…

Amanda’s one is another personal Favourite.

This retro cassette case was good…

I have seen this MK1 once or twice and have always had such a soft spot for the MK1 front end. The colour/wheel/arch combination on this was timeless, so clean and simple. Glad to see the owner do this to an Irish example.

As the sun was setting, I took a quick few snaps of some of the cars that I hadnt had a chance to get up close to over the day like this stupidly Clean KE70 on one piece Equip 01’s..

Ill wrap it up with this Kouki Trueno with a Zenki Lip. As I stared at it for a second it made me laugh, in twenty years time when trends in the car scene come and go, this car will look as good as it did that day, as good as it probably looked twenty years ago. Such a simple exterior, everything about this car and its styling is almost over 25 years old and just reinforces the fact the AE86 is one of the greatest cars ever made.

Hope you enjoyed the pictures….
