Garage Life: Rust never sleeps

It was a pretty surreal sight, with so much love these days for the AE86 all around the world, especially with the launch of the FT-86, its pretty obvious by now what kind of a status this chassis has amongst car enthusiasts. Seeing an N2 arched GT Apex left for dead in a field is something you dont come across that often. This one ended its faith with the front end colliding with something twisting the entire right chassis leg shock tower and bulkhead.

We all know just how horrible rust is when it comes to cars, even saying the word makes many people shiver, in the AE86 world especially with the Irish and UK climate, these cars are almost living, rust creeps along many areas and preventing this is almost a fulltime job in itself. After all most of these cars are over 20 years old.

This unfortunate example was brought back to the Garage to be chopped up for parts, and scavenged for anything that was of value.

Some of the goodies were still very usable to the right person, like the entire GT APEX interior….

I always enjoy the stripping of a Japanese car, afterall it lived another life across the other side of the world, filled with random bits of another culture….

Stripping this trueno we found some money and a mix tape which must have been stuck behind the dash for over 20 years! We instantly popped the mixtape into the cassette player and started talking about how the owner must have felt badass cruising the streets of Japan, in his N2 arched trueno listening to his tunes! Its an eerie feeling you get, cars inevitably dont last forever, and if this one could speak it might tell a great and interesting story, or maybe not!

A very opposite looking Trueno lurking under the cover of safety!

The silent killer!

We can make it better, stronger, faster!

Chopping up one of your favourite cars is a very weird feeling! As much as it is enjoyable because you know its already dead, you still sit back and feel somewhat sad and like youve just done something wrong! At least whatever could be saved has been saved, and this unfortunately is another 86 that has bitten the dust… but you have to admit, it looks pretty hilarious as a convertible!
