Car Spotting: The Coolest Run around?
When most people think of a run around car, especially in the Irish car scene they wind up purchasing something cheap and efficient, something that gets them from A to B that little bit cheaper whilst the pride and joy parked up. When I found out this AE92 was a run about I was shocked.
It could be argued that Toyota made a huge mistake cutting costs and turning the rest of the AE chassis front wheel drive, especially in these times where the KE70 is and other rear wheel drive cars from the 70’s and 80’s are becoming much more sought after. This Japanese imported AE92 sprinter has been given an almost 86 treatment.
The owner adopted the same Rear wheel drive drift style when it came to making this Sprinter stand out, very subtle but very effective modifications with a pinch of personality combined with flared arches and cable ties.
The extra touches of personality really add to the overall look of the car.
Inside has also been given the drift inspired treatment, the 92 that was sold here in Ireland was a very basic model compared to the sprinter, this one comes with a full fancy wine interior and electric windows. The owner added a Nardi classic and Dildo to add a little more character.
What makes this sprinter that bit more interesting is the Black top 20valve 4a-ge which has been fitted, along with a Cusco strut and custom coilovers. This car makes for a very entertaining and nippy daily cruiser.
Wheels are everything when it comes to a cars exterior, this should be obvious by now. What finished the look of this 92 was an extremely rare set of SSR Dunlop T-E wheels, on 25mm 4×100 to 4 x 114.3 adapters.
This mismatch wheel look works perfectly, the Japanese really did keep the best for themselves, the Sprinter AE92 back end is stunning compared to the standard one which was sold in Europe especially the brake lights.
The car scene really is starting to come into its own here in Ireland over the past year or so, especially with cars like this Sprinter just oozing with personality, lurking in the most unusual of places. The perfect combination of subtle modifications, nice stance and the power to match has made this sprinter much more interesting than just a daily beater. I can honestly say I love this car.
