Car Spotting: Number 189

I recently had the pleasure of checking out number 189. I’m sure many of you are well acquainted with the Tommi Mäkinen EVO 6 or 6.5 as its often referred to. The car is named after the Finnish World rally driver after he took four driver championships in a row, Its always been a cool thing when a large car company comes out with a model like this with that extra special feeling of exclusivity creating a collectors item almost isntantly.

Outside the Mäkinen CP9A was fitted out with a new bumper from Mitsubishi and came wearing a set of 17 inch Enkei wheels. The owner has left the car as it rolled out of the factory exterior wise, the Mäkinen’s came with a sticker kit which ran down the sides of the Evo but the owner decided to leave the car looking subtle.

Inside from Mitsubishi the cockpit was fitted with a leather Momo steering wheel and gearknob and a set of custom Recaro seats with the Finnish rally drivers name stitched in white just to show the exclusivity. It might be hard to get an idea from the pictures just how insanely clean this example is. The inside is like new!

Its nice that the car is not completely stock, the owner has fitted a few tasteful mods from the HKS family to compliment the Lancer’s power. A HKS intake and intercooler piping was fitted, a downpipe, sport catback, and a super silent exhaust all from HKS with the addition of a Tial dumpvalve.

Yes that is the original black paint, I was also in shock when this was pointed out. Anyone with a black car will know the hardship in keeping it looking this fresh and clean, there was hardly a single scuff mark on the paint. How clean the exterior was kept ended up being just as impressive as the car itself. You could fool anyone into thinking this just rolled out of the factory. The Mäkinen has always been a personal favourite over the years, and number 189 is such a spotless example of one of the rarest/ coolest EVo’s to ever come out of Mitsubishi with this one rocking a mere 29000 enjoyed miles on the clock. A future classic indeed!
