Meets: Old School Honda Meet

We decided to take a trip to Portlaoise, its usually the best place for everyone to meet as its a pretty central part of Ireland to get people to show up. The biggest problem it seems these days when it comes to car meet’s is a decent turn up. What was good about this meet was even though there wasnt a crazy turnout the quality of some of the cars that showed up was awesome.

You just cant hate on 80’s Honda styling. It was obviously taken for granted back in the day but as the years go on it just keeps looking better.

Even on vehicles like the shuttle, which was designed to be a simple people carrier, no people carrier looks this good these days or even has this much character. Stay tuned for more updates on this beast, Andy from MIJ has got some serious plans!

It was nice to see a third gen prelude, this is the first one I had seen in a few years, a car that you would never see on the roads in Ireland.

Another car which has become quite scarce is the second generation CRX. There was a few in attendance like this Clean two tone wearing Mugen MR5’s.

Looking there age, but that’s not so much a bad thing the MR5 looks at home under any 80’s Honda chassis.

This EF9 was looking real clean….

Same goes for this EF, its nice to see people give these cars the love they deserve before many of them bite the dust.

Who could hate on a white EF9?

Which would you choose? EK9 or EF9. Quite a lot of changes over the years, but both cars have equal appeal.

A couple of younger Honda’s made an appearance, very surprised that this was the only DC2 to make an appearance.

The unloved Honda, preludes usually live in the shadow of the ever loved Civic of Integra. This Mugen Kitted 5th generation was looking good sporting Acura badges and BBS rims.It looks quite different to the late 80’s early 90’s model just a few images up!

Even though this wasn’t so much “oldschool” the DB really doesn’t get that much love on these shores either, such an awesome car with serious potential.

I always enjoy the clean look of this 2nd Gen CRX wearing red lipped Enkei CPS2.

Another clean looking CRX wearing BBS.

I was quite surprised this was the only four door EF at the meet.

I spy Vti.

Its a real shame Honda have discontinued making performance cars and focused more on other markets. They need to bring back badass decals like this and the magic red stripe.

Many of you might remember Jamie’s clean coupe, now sporting Mugen Teeth.

DA rocking classic Enkei RS two piece wheels.

Speaking of DA’s Darrens DA6 was in antecedence wearing its newly refurbished shoes. Jackie also showed up in his DC2 fronted EG6, both cars wearing some of the only known sets of CPR’s in the country.

Mugen skirts and Sprint Hart CPR’s… Yum Yum.

Savage VTEC lad, she a K24 turbo????????

Gotta love the dealership sticker!

Check this very cool Honda Concerto, which was also known badged as a rover in the UK, whats interesting about this concerto is that its a Japanese version, something that you wont see that much on our shores if anywhere for that matter.

Its always a pleasure to see one of the nicest CL1’s in Ireland. Hopefully we will have more on this car soon.

Evil looking EG6 sporting some Black racing pro N1’s.

Awesome 80’s styling.

It was hard to get enough of this insanely clean looking EF9. What was even better was the wheel choice.

The immaculate looking Enkei RPF01’s couldn’t have suited to civic any better. What a cool car.

The same could be said for Ross’s EF9 also, this car is the definition of clean. What makes it better is the fact he managed to mix personality without taking from the look of the car, check the bent license plate bringing the car right back to the early 90’s Kanjo styl.

Swapping out the XXR’s for a set of Diamond Racing steelies with cherry center’s and a polished lip.

What an awesome car, it manages to get better every time I get a chance to look at it. Hopefully more of these meets will happen over the next while with a more interesting turnout. Ireland has some proper gems that need to make an appearance at these gatherings.
