Feature: Mass Appeal

Finding an s13 like this in Ireland has started to get rare. Years ago the streets were flooded with s-bodies; everyone and their friend drove a Silvia or a 180sx. The recession kicked in and many who drove these cars were out of work and out of money. This led to a sudden change in the value of these cars, which inevitably led to them, being butchered. Ask yourself, how many nice s13’s are on the road today? On top of that how many of these cars are still daily driven?

This s13 could very well have fallen out of America or Japan. What’s amazing is that this Silvia was actually built in Ireland and has to be driven on some of the worst roads imaginable day in day out. Yet again we show that when the mindset is there, this country can come out with some tremendous looking cars.

The first thing to hit you is the Bayside Blue paint Job. It just works on a rear wheel slider like this. The colour attracts quite a lot of attention, whether it is a dull or sunny day this car is shining.

The Silvia has a full genuine Origin streamline body kit with 50mm front and rear over fenders which puff the S13 out just that little bit more then standard. The original bonnet has been swapped out for a vented Origin carbon model giving the front end a slightly tougher look.

The rear has been treated to more Origin goodies, a carbon lip boot spoiler and a carbon roof spoiler. The carbon parts really do contrast perfectly against the metallic blue. The mirrors have been swapped out for a set of Ganador Aero’s, they always seem to look at home on the Silvia.

One thing you notice is that this s13 has plenty of character. USDM style these have become a strong part the car scene Irish car scene as of recent. It certainly has brought divided opinions with it. Before the whole sticker thing exploded it had been around perfected in Japan and somewhat reborn in the States. The car has a very US sticker theme going on and it suits the cars character.

Under the bonnet lays a purple heart, a tried and tested Red top SR20DET. It’s an engine which is much favoured by the drift community for being reliable and easy to find parts for. Squeezing more power from this lump is an s15 ball bearing turbo, a HKS turbo elbow, a HKS intercooler, an Apexi induction kit and an Apexi Blow off valve. The engine build is modest but impressive and most of all reliable for street drifting. Letting the engine breath out is a HKS manifold, a HKS downpipe fitted to a Japspeed decat and a HKS cat back exhaust.

Inside, the back has been stripped out whilst the front retains most of its creature comforts as this car is daily driven! For seating the car has an R33 Gtr passenger seat and an East Bear fixed bucket for the driver.

A Sparco deep dish suede wheel with red stitching is the choice for steering while a C’s short shifter and custom white snooker ball gear knob are used for gear selection.

The choice of shoes for the Silvia was a bold decision indeed, Racing Hart CR’s were known as one of the most popular wheels of the Fast and the Furious early millennium era. Some 17×9’s on the rear with 25mm spacers and 17 x 8’s wrapped in stretched Kumho rubber is what this Silvia wears, it gives a whole new lease of life to the Racing Harts. The gold and chrome really does pop against the Bayside blue.

Giving the Nissan a much firmer and adjustable ride is the help of some Cusco front and rear strut braces, front and rear Whiteline anti-roll bars, Japspeed toe arms, traction arms and camber arms.

The Silvia enjoys a mix of Cusco coilovers up front and HKS coilovers at the rear. An F1 racing 6 puck clutch and a Cusco 2 way help get the power to the ground and most importantly sideways.

The car gets daily driven and daily drifted and that’s what the s-body has always been about. As we see more and more Silva’s especially s13’s disappear off the road and end up as parts it’s nice to know that there is still people out there that are holding it down with examples like the one featured here

Many would say this PS13 is too nice to drift, that’s what I like about this Silvia. It has both the looks to impress and the right amount of modifications to have a bit of fun, it has a few marks that tell a story. It has character and style that’s what we love the most.
