Track Day: AE86 Trackday Mondello

I was going crazy I missed this last year, so this year I made sure my weekend was free to trek up to the AE86 track day. It had been raining all week and was looking bad, which is typical in Ireland. Somehow the rain decided to take a break only for that Saturday and mother nature even showed us a bit of sunlight which is always a treat.

There was enough cars there to enjoy, but not as many turned up as expected. None the less the cars that came didn’t disappoint as you can see from the picture above, of a tasty zenki grilled rocking some SSR XR4’s.

I couldn’t get enough of this incredibly mint looking panda on some iconic Hayashi streets.

The cars that hit the track definitely didn’t disappoint either.

The sound of screaming 4A-GE’s going sideways in a Hachiroku is definitely something that can never get old.

So good to have the sun on our side, at least for the photos! Bryan’s Trueno looks good in the sun.

Many people were driving hard up the straight, which was cool.

Others chose to Manji the entire straight like this champion, and the best, its not in a 500+hp Nissan Gotta love the Hachiroku!

Each time he would push harder and harder, and even spin with a nice collection of corolla’s behind him! It was definitely crazy entertaining stuff!

I definitely couldn’t get enough of Adrian’s 20v Shino Kouba built levin. Nice to see this car in the flesh finally, especially after seeing it online quite a lot. Its definitely one of the meanest Hachi’s Ive ever seen.

There was a good mix of cars on the track at times, as it was an open day for other people who wanted to use the track, you would see people like Sean in his completely stripped ep82, he was hunting AE86’s all day! Good to see this thing back in action.

Clancy and Kearney were also making the most of the track in this s14, smoking tires all day.

It was different to see a blue hachi amongst all the Panda’s! Rocking some wide as fuck steelies on the rear.

Same goes for Kev’s Red Levin wearing some chrome SP1’s. A different take to the traditional hachi look.

Speaking of different, Cloko’s AE70 was such an awesome sight.

Its rare even to see a KE these days let alone this AE70 from Japan, it looked the part with some tasty Watanabe’s under the arches! Definitely one of the coolest cars at the track day.

You can never loose with a clean and simple look on these, especially when rocking some period correct wheels.

All these years and they still hold their own and seem to be just as much if not more.

Lots of funky exits where going down at the Dunlop corner like this Trueno threading the needle!

This looked like a scene that could belong in a film! A Bunch of angry Hachi’s chasing down a Volvo 740 as it slides away!

Bryan had his grip face on! hahaha

There was plenty of spin outs and not everyone was having a good time. This Altezza felt the force of the wall.

Twinky’s Levin was looking good in the bends.

Neville’s SR86 was definitely one to watch….

The car was having plenty of fun around the track!

It was like a smoke machine down the straight!

Not a very common car on our shores was Johnny’s A31 cefiro, these cars always look good sideways!

Dayo’s Levin was back from the dead… but for one day only!

This time it had some sharpie madness on the wings, which took a long time!

It was definitely cool to see the car go sideways one more time before it gets stripped down and rebuilt.

It was so good that the weather held up! Nature must like the AE86 haha

One more snap of this rear end cant hurt can it? Expect more on this car real soon.

A Kouki clipping the Apex!

This was one of the best parts of the day, watching Neville in his SR86 and the N/A 86 manji the straight at full speed trying to run the wall! Good fun indeed. So glad the day turned out the way it did. It was cut short but it was still a good time. Some typical heroes decided to go around in circles outside “diffing” which also added to the amount of shit at the end, but all that aside it was a proper day with some decent action and an unusual day of good weather. It was also the first time that Mondello allowed drifting in a private session, hopefully this happens again. Check the video out below for some of the days action also!
