Car Feature: Spoon fed eg6

Some cars leave a real impact on you. I remember the first time I seen this car. It was a dark choppy winters night. It was parked amongst a decent collection of night lurker Hondas just off of the mouth of the port road in Waterford. The car just bounced against the cold winter night. The closer I walked to this little civic, the more intense it looked. I was shocked to see such genuine car…

There may or may not be a lot of people in the country who really know how serious some of the parts are which are on this little EG in terms of status, or for that matter how rare this little EG is itself. Everyone who knows Honda’s knows Spoon. They may or may not know anything about Spoon but in Ireland people like to stick spoon stickers everywhere. I’ve even seen them on a Focus!. There’s so much spoon hype in this country its crazy, everyone and their friend has a spoon sticker on something.

The same goes for the US, there is always talks on forums of people going crazy for some genuine spoon parts, people forking out large amounts of money on RHD conversions and sourcing little bits to complete the look. We really have it lucky in terms of how easy it is compared to the states to get the real deal as so much has come into our little country over the last few years its insane. Its  cool to see that Tatsuru Ichisima has such a following in this country which was definitely helped by the whole Gran Turismo game series.

I guess we can start by saying that the car is a genuine yellow EG-sir-s. What’s special about this is the car was a rare find in yellow. The car itself is totally original; it has never been resprayed or touched. That’s cool because a lot of  civics have been sprayed yellow over here, especially EG civics and its really nice to see the real deal in sir form.

Straight away you can see those infamous Spoon sw388 wheels. Its crazy these have to be one of the most common replica wheels out there for Hondas. Having the real deal must feel good, subtle bragging rights. The Regamaster’s which are made in Russia fit this car so well and are all held on by some anodized blue 5zigen pro racer extended wheel studs and nuts.

Jamie decided that he wanted to keep this car themed towards spoon but with a hint of originality. He decided on spraying his spoon splitter yellow to make things simpler at the front end. The car has a serious array of genuine spoon parts. The spoon splitter and spoiler have to be two of the most replicated body mods for the Eg in history. Ireland is flooded with reps so its nice to see the real deal.

The Spoon carbon spoiler is subtle and really pops against the yellow. The car itself is a real sleeper in terms of looks. At first glance from a casual on looker this really does a modest well looked after Honda One would have to look closer to see that there is a lot more going. That’s what I always love about the Spoon parts, its subtle, if you are into it you get it, if not you don’t.

The Interior of the car used to be Yellow. This may not be everyone’s cup of tea and it certainly wasn’t Jamie’s. He decided there was a lot more yellow going on then he would prefer so the yellow seats had to go. The interior itself has been stripped out and kept functional. This Sirs-s had all the extras, like electric mirrors, it even had traction control, fanciest spec civic!

For sound the original Gathers speakers have been left in place but the rear seats have been taken out. A Bride ergo is what keeps Jamie secure and a Sparco Monza wheel is what lets him turn. Jamie has added some 50/50 rear taillights which are a classic touch.

This car wins a gold star for looks, but this car is probably the fastest N/A EG in Ireland at the minute. The civic has can hit a 1/4 mile in the high twelve’s which is pretty impressive for a daily driver. Providing this power is a K20A swap from a DC5. Man does this thing move!

speg3

Lurking in the engine bay is an RBC intake manifold, a K&N typhoon induction kit, and an R crew manifold. Fueling the K20 is a Golden Eagle fuel rail and automotive fuel pressure regulator and fuel pump. Holding this package to the car is some Hasport engine mounts and supplying this power to the car is some Hasport drive shafts, gear linkages and a DC5 gearbox. This is all managed by Hondata k-pro ecu, This little EG is boasting around  250bhp. All of which comes though a full 5zigen exhaust system.

speg21

Providing control for the civic are some D2 coilovers, up front is a Type R Dc2 strut brace and at the rear is the infamous beaks tie bar in blue keeping with the spoon colours. For braking, none other than the Iconic mono block Spoon 4 pot Calipers in that classic blue gripping some spoon drilled and grooved discs.

Honda fan or not this is as good as it gets when putting together an EG6, you cant deny that this is functional fully built civic is a winner, full of genuine race bred goodness, and a heart to match, one of the best little civics to ever grace the roads of our country, a fantastic all round Spoon fed stunner.
