Car show : Kilkenny Tuner Show 2009

Where do I start. I guess the show is cool for the type of people who just enjoy looking at whatever kind of car or want something to do on a day off. The poster is slightly misleading to be honest for someone who would have expected more. I expected at least the skyline would be there with its bonnet off boasting that rb buf noop, nothing of the sort, nowhere to be seen. How fooled were we aye? The show had a lot of potential bu like many things in Ireland but It fell short of what we expected in quite a lot of ways. With the site were going to try and cover as much as we can in the car scene, some may be good, some may be bad. This one is sort of bad.

I first had to go and check out this corsa. I mean, holy shit. The amount of effort which has gone into making this car look like this is scary. Its good in a way that this happened in the car scene and I dont know if people are still building fresh new cars like this in Ireland, this is definitely still hugh in eastern europe and The U.K. .Ive yet to see something new in Ireland done to this spec. Hopefully its dying out because cars like this are overkill. This one isn’t the best example of a bad corsa there are so many. Its actually done kind of cool with some cool porsche wheels and had some pretty cool ideas going on but at the end of the day it used to look like this. So much effort in a car which will always be a Vaxhaull Corsa. Ive just never seen the attraction and never will.

There used to be so many cars like this around which were total overkill it was horrible. Even though this is a cleaner example of such a car its still a corsa which someone has poured a lot of money into. They really should have done something else with the money. I guess fuck it to each his own with cars like this so I wont talk any more about this corsa. Once I walked inside the venue called the I quickly realised that it wasn’t actually the entire Hub where the show was on but a small area for the inside.

The venue again had some serious potential if the right cars were placed in there. I didn’t get the trucks if it was a car show? I guess to fill the space maybe. Even though it stated it was a tuner show. Trucks are cool and stuff but they really looked out of place.  There wasn’t much in terms of tuned cars floating around. Just a shit load of filler and time capsule cars from a few years ago.

The venue was small enough and after having a quick glance around we realized that everyone was out back watching a group called opposite lock. Now I didn’t know what opposite lock were at. The crowd was cheering for people blowing tires and stuff. I guess if you are into it that’s cool. The BMWs that opposite lock were using had some what it looks like m5 engines which looked cool. I couldn’t help but feel bad for the cars in the pink over black colourway. After watching them blow some tires and do some donuts and stuff they showed off the cars for for people to check out. We had a look and then went back inside to get a closer look at some weapons.

Inside there was some seriously scary looking cars. Stuff that used to be plastered all over magazines like Max Power and Flush Bus and Fast Car back in the day.
It must have been the thing to flush every fucking inch of a car. Even at its stress points. Which then only resulted in cracking and chipping. I don’t think anyone will ever forget that period of big “ICE” installs, bad boy kits and painted “power drums” on the back and lambo doors on puntos with gt wings and dodge viper stripes.  The show had a real feel of 2004 to it. I decided to add the appropriate logos to the pictures I took because I feel they are better suited. Hopefully you will understand too, its just a joke and if you drive these cars, really have a look at them and ask yourself do you really like your car? Maybe you should take them apart and insert some coins and try again.

I dunno who decided to do this but you can see the cracks. This all filler no killer style from back in the day should always be looked back at and laughed about. I’m glad that its not really around anymore. Clean cars done properly will always be triumphant over massive wide arch filler mobiles. Now hold on there, lets not shun all wide arch kits. Cars can look amazing when done right, and when built with the power and function to match its going to look proper. When a car is done right and not when someone goes on a filler frenzy trying to flush and redesign an entire car too look like a melted bucket, then its going to be good.

I suddenly felt like I was inside need for speed underground. You know when you play the game and wont advance without style points. So you have to add fucking massive decals and “stage 3” body kits and bigger wheels and neon’s, and then you didn’t want to because you were quite content with your happy little civic or clean supra. I hated that shit. You would turn on Gran Turismo again and get the spook ek9 instead.

This is definitely another trend I hope never returns from the dead. Lexus lights = bad.  Most of these led light molds raped in chrome look so horrid. I really hope this never comes back. There are some lights out there which can look cool as fuck. But the tack chrome and the futuristic star ship enterprise light moldings inside should definitely stay in the book of bad stuff forever.

I know that this integra has been around for quite a while so I wont bother moaning about it for too long. Really, what were people thinking back a few years ago? This should be sold to a museum. Its a classic example of an ultimate max power magazine machine.

Big wheels, wide arch kits that crack, flip colour paint. license plate relocation’s. Maybe a little bit of some Horrid wheels and then some shapes and curves which done even flow with Honda’s original design.

You can see the cracks where the car just wants to break out and become this. I guess now people realise that less is really more when it comes to Honda’s or even most cars for that matter. Wheels, internals and subtle extras can make an integra look 2000000 times better then any insane overkill wide arch one like this.

The inside of this car looks like a bouncy castle. Its totally insane. I was completely shocked. I guess I wont say anymore about this car. I really hope someone buys it and makes a happy ending for this by returning it back to the way it was. Some serious work must have gone into building this into its chav spec. I even know who had the joy of building this. They told me about how they put this thing together and it was a bad time.  I would have honestly tried to talk the owner out of it. I guess money is money and if someone wanted to fork out for this, its their cash.

Another example of overkill. Why flush the boot and relocate the plate? Its hilarious. This ek could have been so nice and clean. That colour even had the chance to have worked so well. Again some Lexus styled lights are the obvious extras. I don’t know if this car has been around a while like the other two but man I would love to get my hands on that and make it back into something like this. Preferably something that could look so clean, simple and nice.

I know people try to be different with these kits which are “one off” and stuff but man with the money poured into this ek to make it the way it is it still looks bad. The flushed skirts could have not been done and instead a nice set of rims and some coilovers and the car would have shit all over what it looks like right now. I mean this and this would have been so easily achieved. Its fucked up.

Not everything was filled at the show, there was some clean stuff there too. An is300 on airbags and Mercedes rims was pretty sort of cool. Its cool to see this in Ireland. Alot of potential there for some slammed vip style shit if executed properly.

This Jetta was one of the best there and purely just because of how it was stanced and them wheels. It was clean, simple and looked cool as fuck.

Seriously check the lowness. I don’t know if this was on bags or springs but either way I loved this car. Not everyone’s cup of tea but you have to enjoy its coolness.

This eg2 had serious potential. A better stance and maybe less of the kit and it would be cool. Not alot needs to be done to a del sol to make them look good.

I didn’t really get the eg fogs cable tied to the chicken wire or the air filter cold air feed? Other then that this ep91 was sort of cool.

It looked kind of mean with the half cage, but with some real watanbes or something else and maybe those arches on the front this car would have looked like a mean little glanza.

I’m sorry I had add the logo to the pic. Remember this car in Fast and the Furious. The whole turbo ej coupe thing to steal some dvd players. That was some funny as fuck shit, the whole driving under trucks and jumping into Peterbuilt cabs fucking tranquilizing drivers with some fucking ski goggles and bow and arrows. It was definitely some serious over the top shit. Things ave changed I guess. You can pick a dvd player up now in Tesco for about a tenner and that fucker will play a slice of bread its so good. It really is time for this civic to retire that kit. The car has already lost the spoiler and now its cooler and clean looking but i dunno if that kit or wheels are doing it for the car anymore. People always had a thing for the coupes in the film but man id definitely hit this car up with an update because ejs have some serious potential.

This e46 was doing everything right. You have to give respect where it is due and this car was looking very good on those bbs lms . This stood out like a sore thumb amongst the filler.

Hmm which is the odd one out?

Mike Fitzgeralds sileighty was looking very tasty amongst the rest also. This car looks pretty damn good in the new livery.

Yep, this angle looks delicious. I wish more of this kind of stuff was floating around on the roads. You could go a little lower just to be an asshole but this car is more on the function side of things.

Then there was the taped off Ferrari F1 car. These things are so much smaller in real life. You really have to hand it to people who drives these machines, its fucking insane. It looks so fragile, I honestly wouldn’t have the confidence to push one of these to the limit.

This thing was fucking nuts. Terry Grant was driving the life out of this ford shaped Mad max looking mobile, it was pretty cool for abit.

He was also driving this crazy looking kit car wrapped in chrome. I would have liked to see this hit the track instead of seeing it do donuts.

I guess if the people are happy that’s all that matters. Terry grant and opposite lock entertained the crowd it seems so thats cool if you are into it. For the show, I was let down. It seems that the Hub and the show could have serious potential if they get it done it right. People are changing there taste in the country and the scene is shifting from tacky kits to oem bumpers clean wheels stance or nice engine builds and proper clean cars. The whole JDM or oem or USDM or whetever the fuck you want to call it is getting bigger and bigger. This is a good thing becasuse more and more nice cars are popping up by the week and this is definitely what should be on show. As for some of the filler mobiles that were there, these cars should be stripped and the bad parts melted down to make spoons or forks or something. Maybe sell the shells on for track cars, who knows. There is a lot of good shit happening in Ireland and it should definitely be shown to people. Sorry if this was such a negative look on things but I really thought this could have been a shit lot better and that there should have been better cars inside. Someday….
